OK guys help me out here. I just installed a new turbo that I got from Ms. Jamie (turbo6x2), and a 2-1/2 DP...that for now, is a stock replacement. Meaning it still utilizes the stock elbow....I plan to build an integrated one soon. Anyway, here is what I noticed...this turbo doesn't spool near as fast as the stocker I had on before. Is this because I don't have the right stall in the convertor?? What should it be?? The only info on the turbo that she could give me is this: It is a hybrid with a T04E 60 trim compressor wheel, and a 76 trim T3 hi-flow turbine wheel that is supposed to flow around 925 cfm. Now, I am not 100% sure what stall is in there now, but I'm sure it is pretty close to stock...maybe a little higher. (whatever that is) Any thoughts??

you need a looser converter.i would go with a 3,000 stall myself.

you take any pictures of the turbo?

how fast did she go on that turbo?

i would really like to see some pictures

She said she went 11.6 on this one....I'm sure her setup was far beyond anything I will ever have though. It looks like a stocker from the outside...I'll snap a couple of pics this week and post em.;) ---Keith

cool. i would like to see some pics of the turbine wheels if you can.

You will need more stall if you want faster spool.
Stall speed is a function of torque and torque a function of "combo, tune, etc".
You may want to ask Jamie what converter worked for her with that turbo.
You will really need that DP and PS header now .......... LOL ;)

These are the only pics I have. It's on the car now.

The DP I have on there now is 2-1/2" but, it still utilizes the stock elbow. I'm already working on the integrated pipe.;)

Will a 3000 stall be too much for the street??

Also, will a leaky joint on the pass side header to up-pipe cause the BL's to raise to 140-142? Would it cause a surging idle while in gear too?? Any thoughts??

From what I've been reading so far you shouldn't need a 3k convertor. 2800 should be more than enough but you might want to talk to Dusty or Chris and see what they say.

shouldnt need a 3,000 but i think it will work out well

2800 will be too tight and not get you the performance you want. Seriously you think it spools slow????? I never ran a stock one but that turbo spooled quickly on my car. I also run a 3 inch down pipe and Atr headers and up pipe. I also have an external waste gate setup. Seriously that thing made crazy boost on my 3400 lock up yanks. That what I ran the entire time that turbo was on. A 3000-3200 would be a good choice as well, I think you will lose performance if you go as low as a 2800, from my actual use of the turbo and all.... Street manner on a 3000- 3200???? I guess I'm lost why do you think this will be an issue. I drive my car everywhere and have the thing still get 18 in the city and 25 or so on the highway. What are you thinking you'll lose on the street?

This was one of the few turbos put together by limited and was all this information was available when I was trying to sell the turbo FYI

I will say this again, it's not always about the set up, it's about tuning, the correct convertor for your car, the right tire and air pressure and having your suspension set up correctly. It can be done if you are patient and actually learn your car. I think if you can get it to breathe, have the intake gasket ported and don't screw with it past this point, get decent headers and down pipe you'll be surprised what the car is capable of.

Any leak is a bad leak. The car won't run to peak performance if you have leaks. The passenger side header design on our set ups suck for this. I weld mine yearly, a new design from G body would correct this situation, hint hint.

I guess I'm still learning how these cars will react to different upgrades and I don't wanna make any expensive silly mistakes. I'm not sure it will lose anything on the street...I just want to be sure I can still drive it around comfortably. I'm sure the "slow spool" that "I think" I noticed has every thing to do with me not having the supporting mods necassary to get everything out of this turbo...hence this thread. i.e.: still running the stock elbow, convertor, and headers.
I TOTALLY agree with you on the new design form G Body!!!

Thanks to everybody that has given me input on this!! Keep the info coming, I'm like a sponge, I need to learn ALOT more!!!

So here's the next question....If I need a different convertor, what do you reccommend?? Where should I get one, and are there any valve body changes or adjustments that are needed?? (Anything internal that needs changed) What do you guys/gals think??

And yet another question...back to the pass side header leak, does a leak before the turbo cause the car to run lean?? Is this a cause for the BLM's to raise to the 140's?? Seems to only do this after the car is driven around for a while. The idle surges and seems to lean out, but only after it is fully warmed up. Sorry if this is a dumb question. ---Keith

Anyone??

converter

I will answer the converter question. Ptc makes some really nice converters. You could call them and order a 3k flash stall or you could call bruce at pts and get one of his billet 9x11 converters. I love my billet 9x11 my self. Its a 2800-3000 flash stall and it spools my ta54 like a stocker and its very streetable. As far as the blm issue I will have to type later on that since I need to hit the hay
