Is it wrong to park next to?

Is it wrong to park at the end of the parking lot next to that brand new “Vette” or any other “special” car?

I did it the other day and I got some mean looks.
I figure I’m definitely NOT going to hit his car with my door or anything else and he is not going to hit mines So at least one side of my car is safe and one side of his car is also safe.
So am I wrong?

Absolutely not. What you did was use a new vette as a shield and that is perfectly acceptable. In 20 years the vette will be worthless compared to the TB.

Next time you do it, and the owner is there...just yell out "hey, keep an eye on my car would ya!?"

LOL. its wrong when i squeeze my car into the spot that ******* took 1 1/2 spots with. but i only do that with my camry. when you climb out the sunroof because 2 jackasses dont know how to park is priceless

^^^^^funny ship^^^^^

All right then I’ll keep doing it.
I just wanted to make sure it was an acceptable practice by my part.
I tell you guys some thing my family and I are now getting a hell of a lot of exercise from having to walk 2 miles across the parking lot to get to the stores.

Parked next to a Porsche Boxster once, and by strange coincidence I was coming back to my car the same time Joe yuppie was. I can not begin to describe the look on his face as before I got back in the car I checked every square inch of my door for dings.....:D

He should be honored you parked next to his car.

I would just take up two parking spaces and park sideways in the lot. There is nothing illegal about taking up two parking spaces in a open lot. Even if there are designated lines.

Do you really think someone is going to wait for you to come out if they hit ur car pulling out or opening their door? Not a chance!

If the lot was empty where you parked and then you parked right next to him, I would be pissed if I were him. He doesn't know you or probably doesn't know what your car is or what it's worth. I would have found my own little area and just parked there. Also, anytime I park in two spots some ******* always gets ticked and tries to park right next to me as close as possible, I just quit doing it cause it wasn't worth the battle. Anytime I have to park in a parking lot, I stay in my car until the wife or kids get back..........

This is why a good beater, like my washed-with-a-sledgehammer-dried-with-a-pick Ford F350 is the perfect foil to dipsh&ts that own something other than a TR and try to "protect" it. Around here, the morons in tricked out Acuras and such line up as if in a car show without being in the remote part of the lot. So, I see just how wide the space they leave is by sliding the F350 into it. Couple minutes later someone comes out and they end up moving - far away.:D

And, with cars and trucks looking like that, they wonder if you even carry insurance on the thing. They think twice before pulling out in front of things like that.

I remember when I was much younger I saw a keyed Ferrari at the tampa mall. I guess that's what happens when you double park in handicap spots.

I will NEVER have to worry about parking like that as my T or GN will NEVER be at a mall, free standing store or resturant. I learned my lesson years ago when I took my Turbo T to Home Depot and parked it way in the back of the lot. Now, mind you I made it a habit to NOT take the turbo cars to any large lot because of the obvious(theft). The ONE time I take it to the Depot, and believe me it was for a 5 minute stop(buying alky:biggrin: ), I was on my way back to the car and from across the lot I could see a pick-up truck parked right beside the 'T' and a guy coming around the other side with what looked like a slim jim!! The driver yelled to him when he saw me coming and I almost caught them at the red light near the exit. I ran back to the car and you could see where he tried to get the door opened, but no real damage!! That was a close one and if it were 5 more minutes my T would have been gone. The ONLY time i'll do that now is with someone in the car, NO exceptions and even then I might think twice. Just my 02 and I hope it spares someone the heartake of losing there pride and joy.

Technically there isn't anything wrong with it. Its a public parking lot and by parking there he is taking the chance that someone will park next to him.

That said, according to the car guy code, parking next to someone who has a really expensive/rare/classic car who clearly went out of their way to avoid parking next to someone is a dick move. You know why he's there. There isn't any reason to park next to him.

This has happened to me a couple of times and in both cases I "expressed" my displeasure to the other person.

That’s part of what I was thinking but me being selfish that guy with the nice car isn't going to slam his door into my car and I wouldn't either. So it kind of helps the other guy as well. I think!!
Like some else said he at least has one side is protected while my car is next to his.

I was/am asking from a “according to the car guy code" point of view.

great points guys.

+1... dick move to the max.

As long as you are just parking next to him and not going over into his space I don't see aproblem.
Personally I don't care if someone wants to park way out and all crooked and stupid if there are still plenty of parking. I do see a problem with people parking like that in a sense of protecting your own property, etc. Ever notice that the "far end" of the lot is closest to the street? A lot more visibility to street traffic if you have anything that tempts thieves. Taking two spots never made sense to me as there are always jokers and jealous people who see what you are doing and take it upon themselves to either park on top of your car or vandalize it.

Somebody double parked their newer Chrysler like that one time and I came out and someone had broken the windows and keyed it. Definitely sucked.

+3. Because you have a kewl car does not over-ride the 'code'. Park elsewhere. Adhere to the code. Dont be a dick.

Before I got to paranoid to let mine out of my sight I used to park it WAY in the back of any lot I parked it in. I usually started a little clump of cars back there. When I leave there would usually be a few more cars, Mustangs, Vettes, random custom import, etc.. surrounding my car. I never thought they all had the same mindset to "protect" my car but felt good thinking they all figured my car was special enough to park next to it, like we were the cool kids in the parking lot or something.

Now, that car doesnt go in a parking lot unless its a car show. I live in Oregon and its against the law to pump your own gas here. I take two 5 gallon race gas jugs to the gas station in my DD and fill them up, take them home and put them in my GN so nobody touches it.

Geez, you would think its an Enzo or something. I guess I got this way because I spent so much restoring it and bringing it back from the dead. With all the money and hard work I have put into it I would be devistated to find door dings, hand prints, etc.. on the car.

If there were other cars around the area where you parked...like within a couple spaces then I would say OK...but if the Vette or whatever is parked way out all by itself...with numerous spaces between it and the next car and you parked in the space right next to it...NOT COOL!...that would piss me off...I park way out for a reason...to avoid door dings...I know it's a free country but there's no reason you would need to park in the space right next to it...you could park leaving a space in between and that would be OK...JMO
