I always keep my car 100% legit.

SignUp Now!I'm a "cop" on this board Remember operation of a vehicle on the public roadways is a priviledge not a right.
When I was growing up things were different. Less people more space, cars weren't as fast & we weren't as likely to have a tragedy. Not so now it's a serious crime to street race. When I see some of these`ricers doing all their xtream fast & furious reckless driving & putting everyone in their way at risk I cringe. These are the guys that give legitimate enthusiast a bad name & force those laws on us.It gives the cops no choice but to use`every enforcement tool available to control this. So put the blame where it belongs. It should be my right since my damn taxes are paying for the roads and Police officers that patrol them..![]()
Technically All vehicles from the inception of the smog laws dating back to the early sixty's are not exempt from the law.It only implies that vehicles older than 1974 are exempt from bi annual inspections. What equipment came on the vehicle must stay on it. Should the equipment be no longer available every attempt must be made to maintain it through approved aftermarket replacement. the only thing that saves the older vehicles from being targeted is the impossibility of enforcement & the pressure that was brought upon Sacramento by SEMA & car enthusiasts & the aftermarket industry. Being a smog tech & running a station for many years I know the laws & am careful not to get my customers in trouble & save them from themselves by not deviating too far from legal & the ability to pass smog when needed. These Buick's run the best when they burn clean & efficient. Our cars are unaffectedWe probably don't have to worry about this happening at the Donut Derelicts car show. As many of the fastest and most modified cars are owned by cops. That, and about the only racing going on, is bench racing  .
Just a side note: Can a officer Make you open your hood?
I ask this because yesterday I drove past a area in Costa Mesa where a CA. Highway patrol was diverting select vehicles to a mobile emissions dyno. I got to thinking. My work truck is a 74 chevy (smog exempt) PU truck. It has aftermarket Edelbrock EFI, HEI dist, 200r4 trans, Etc. It now gets 30% better gas milage and runs much cleaner. If I would have gotten flagged on to this treadmill, and opened my hood, would I be forced into putting the Quadrajet carb, points dist, and 350 trans back in, and all in the name of "CLEANER AIR"?
My thought is, if I can make my car (or truck) burn "clean", then it shouldn't be any of their F*****G business how I do it.
Back under my rock...

I really wish sometimes that I had the money to just retire & move to a state that is less restrictive.
You just got to love those roadside intrusive smog tests. I really wish sometimes that I had the money to just retire & move to a state that is less restrictive on firearms & vehicles.
Or George Orwell's "Animal Farm" with people. Take your pick. For the literate type, it is "1984".
Ya Wells, Ca. is such a big beautiful place full of interesting people.
But...something about it makes a lot of us want to leave, with sadness,
but leave anyway for peace of mind (& less taxes).
