Is worth switching from a CAS-V-4 SLIC to a front mount for my combo?

Since I am using Alky Control, would I see that much of a gain going to a front mount? If so, would you recommend the GN1 or RJC 325? Thanks. See sig. for combo.

A little help here. :) Anyone have any advice or experience going from a SLIC to a front mount? Thanks.

Anytime we have upgraded a GN from SLIC to a front mount with a build similar to yours, we have seen a performance improvement.

Since boost is restriction, less is better!

With your turbo and heads you can move the same amount of air into the engine with less boost and a cooler air temp. We have many data logs and time slips to prove this info.

The choice would definitely be the RJC unit as we have used many of these and the fit and quality is excellent.

Your decision for this upgrade will give you the best performance for the buck, especially if you have a decent SLIC to recover some of the cost of the RJC unit. :)

I went with the 315 RJC and had a slic all I can say WOW why did I not do it sooner

I'm pro FMIC.......boost comes on faster, heat soak isn't a issue as compared to a slic, better flow, large column of air, etc. If you want something to reject heat the best do you put it in a oven? Nuff said

Thank you very much for the responses. I appreciate the 'real world' experiences.

Will a dual fan set up be necessary or can I keep the stock fan?

Will I have turbo lag?

I put a Precision SLIC and to be honest I wish I would have gone with the TR Specialties unit. The precision has the largest core and neck for a SLIC but the fit was tight and brackets are more of a pain INHO. I have an old BDC on my other car and the fit is better, however the Precision will have the best flow in these units. I wanted to keep it looking stockish like Grumpy says keep it simple. Pros and cons on both sides . Keep us posted.

On E85 the returns are less... I tried going from a SLIC ( modified shrouding and not being HOT LAPPED ) .. went to a PRECISON front mount .. same E85 setup... gains --> not worth doing a front mount.
I took mine off and sold it.

Again this was at the track.. not hot lapped ...

ON the street on gasoline .. the differences are more apparent.. it also depends on how hard you are pushing the particular setup.
Worth noting .. watch what type of core you get ... also tubing size .. having a intercooler that is meant for a 9 second race car .. on a 11 second street car doesn't work well.
The stock intercooler has gone 130 by many people... but they do not like being heat soaked and a modified shroud helps a lot .

The front mounts have their place and will show gains.. the question is are the gains worth the cons .. that depends on the car and owner.

If your going to a FM make sure your cooling system is good. I went from a CAS V2 to a V4, on the street with alky I haven't noticed a seat of the pants difference. My coolant temps are much better (no peaking over 205-210, stays 180 steady).

I have zero cooling issues with my F.M. but running dual fans and f-body radiator...Have not seen any effects on spool up either...

I've been running a Cas FM since 1999. The stock radiator and fan could not keep water temps below 200f if the air temps were above 90 degrees. I upgraded to dual fans which were better. But the solution was to swap in a aluminum radiator as well.

I have a very nice 4 inch thick BA front mount and I'm looking to trade into a slic. If not interested in a trade how much would you want for your cooler. Thanks. Also my pipes are only about 3 years old. No dents.

From some of these replies it appears that you also need a new radiator and dual fans to go along with a FMIC. That sure adds a lot of money to the cost of running a FMIC and money I don't want to spend for an unknown performance gain. I guess I will think about it more before deciding.

It will depend on how efficient your stock radiator is...I upgraded to a f-body radiator and dual fans long before going to a F.M....I live up north and won't see temps much higher than 90* If you live down south and drive your GN in traffic likely your stock radiator and single fan won't be enough with a F.M....

no questions it will run hotter.. especially if you drive the car in stop and go.. the big front mounts really take up all the frontal area..

it depends on what your after and just hoe much your looking to gain.. I was really surprised at the track that a front mount didn't do more.. but after datalogging and looking at temps.. it made sense...
on the street it can be a different matter.. would I spenp $6-700 on a front mount for the gains... NOPE .. there is money better spent

I live in central NC and it can get hot here.

Maybe the money would be better spent on 9.5" tc from Dusty Bradford. :)

FOR SURE !!!

convertor gains will far out weight what you will get from a front mount !! especially with you on ALKY !
