Has anyone installed this item? I'm looking for a replacement carpet for my Turbo T. I contacted Jax and Car Motorsports. The sample from Jax showed up amazingly fast. I'm still waiting for the sample from Car.

The color match appears reasonable with the Jax item. It doesn't come with any backing so I am assuming you are supposed to save the original jute backing. Can anyone provide any comments on this product or perhaps suggest another supplier? I'd like to get the carpet ordered and installed ASAP. Thanks.

I have the Jax replacement carpet and it's nice - color match is good. Jax is fine imho. Save the old carpet and jute to use as a pattern to trim the new. The old jute in my car was a mess so I threw it out rather than use it again. See your local "Carpet Barn" for some underlayment material.

Hope this helps.

Jax service is top notch...nice people too.
Their carpet kits are from ACC. It's not as good as the factory (none of them are) but, it also cost about $500.00 less. It's a 90% good fit if you take your time installing it.

Tha car motor sports is supposed to be a really nice kit...I haven't seen one but it does cost about double what the ACC kit cost.

Some jute backing comes attached to the ACC carpet kit when you get it. I found everything fit best when I left the original factory jute in and then layed the new carpet (with the jute attached) right over it.

Sprinkle a good bit of baking soda down before putting the new carpet in...helps keep things smelling fresh

Once again - TAKE YOUR TIME. Make sure to take the carpet out of the box spread it out and let it lay open for a few days.

while mine was open (prior to installation) I put some good heavy multiple coats od scotch guard on it too.

Good info guys, thanks. I ordered the Jax carpet and some plain matching floor mats this morning. Still no sample from Car Motorsports. The sample from Jax got across the border and into my hands faster than anything I have ever requested from the U.S. That kind of customer service just makes you want to order from a vendor and help them out. :)

Any more tips on actually installing the carpet would be appreciated since I never saw much in my research. I am assuming with retaining the original jute that you just lay the new carpet overtop and rely on the seats, sill plates, and other trim to hold it all in place.

The funny thing is the carpet really isn't that bad in this car. But the rest of it has come around so nice to detailing that, even for a daily driver, I'm taking the opportunity to make the interior like the day it was new. Thanks again for any info.

I'm going to be putting down a carpet in my car in the coming months. This thread will be very helpful. But I was wondering if there is any suggestions of anything I can put anything down on the passenger side to help with the heat coming off the cat. I always warn my girlfriend about putting anything on the floor board that might try to melt. But I know it can get a little uncomfortable sitting on the oven.

Thanks for the tips.

Is your car missing the convertor heat shield that goes between the cat and the floor pan? I don't recall that being an issue on any of my cars. At least not for the brief period of time they actually had cats. ;)

I'm almost positive it's still there. I've never taken it off. Just seems like it gets warm. Not unbearable, but warm enough to take notice.

I just tell her the car has floor heating like houses do. :)

I had great luck with the Jax products. They even gave some great advice for the installation of the carpet and seat covers. A word of advice........take the carpet out of the box when you get it and hang it someplace safe. The wrinkles are very hard to get rid of once the carpet is in the car.

Just curious how you can say this? I went to Jax's website and they have the carpet for $120.00 PLUS shipping. Our carpet is $129.95 for the same TYPE of carpet, but better quality (our carpet is actually made by a Carpet Manufacturer). $10 is HARDLY double unless math has changed since I went to school. Now, we do have a carpet that is $199.95, but this is because it has a RUBBER backing that is the equivalent of Dynomat only it is molded with the carpet so no separate installation (and double the work).

PLEASE get your facts straight before posting PATENTLY incorrect information.

Thanks,

Alan

Hey Alan - relax...I was comparing the price that was quoted to ME on the phone by YOU (or one of your employees). When I got the price quote, I wasn't offered any other options/alternatives - How was I supposed to know?

And just for the record - I am STILL waiting on my carpet samples that I was told would be sent to me to check for color match.

Sorry for the defensiveness, but in today's world, bad info on a website can seriously damage a business. We've seen the various threads about certain companies and their customer problems and do not want to follow that route.

All samples have been sent out. PM me your mailing address and I will Priority Mail a new set to you (USPS says guaranteed 2 to 3 day delivery). As I noted on the other thread, we got caught in some kind of turf war between the UPS store and the local Post Office branch that serves that store. A LOT of our outgoing mail was held, returned, or even placed in the dead letter file. It was not pleasant.

As for price quoting, my apologies that all options weren't discussed with you. This will not happen again.

Alan,

Perhaps you could chime in please with my question. I was wondering if there is something I could put down, perhaps between the carpet and floor to reduce the amount of heat coming off the cat and DP on the passenger side. I do have the shield still in place yet it there seems to be a noticable amount of heat coming up from this region. Of course this is noticable in the summer time when I drive the car the most these days.

Thanks for the information about the rubber matted backing. I didn't know that acted as Dynomat.

Chris,

I would have to recommend the rubber backing. This type of backing was used on certain higher level cars to better insulate the interiors from heat and noise. One example is the Reatta. Another is the Turbo Trans Am. The rubber backing would make a BIG difference in the heat you are experiencing.

Thanks,

Alan
