This car was held my a collector and rarley driven. I purchased it to drive it, not just look at it.
I would like some advice on mods. I would really like this car to keep up with my friends who have new vette's. I have always loved the GN's looks. I'm old school I guess.
First on the list is move battery to trunk. Would like to know some engine mods hoping I don't need to pull the engine. Figured a new stainless header and new ball bearing turbo?
Help! I have the car I aways wanted, now I want to update the performance.
Thanks guys.

Whoa, there are dozens of mods to perform and none require the battery to be moved to the trunk. If this car only has 4000 miles on it...why didn't you purchase a car that is more suited as a driver? There are some superior turbo cars for sale right now that are just as clean and can be driven without taking a collector worthy car off the list.

There are some things your gonna have to do first, but your budget needs to be known in order for the correct plan of attack to be laid out. If your messing with a $1000 bucks, it wont get you far.

I purchased the car at a good price and it is like new inside out. I would have paid the same price for a car with 40k miles.
My budget is about 15k.
I prefer a gel battery in the trunk for moving some weight back and out of the hot engine compartment. I live in Phoenix and batterys have a short life out here. lol
Oh, this will be a daily driver. Will never see the track.

I have been searching for the right car for years. I think this will be with me for years to come. The pic of your coated turbo looks great!
Is that a type of ceramic?

Ronnie has a coating business but he can tell you about that. With a budget of 15k...you can do every bolt on mod there is and have $$$ left over.

Not trying to sway your decision but if my car only had 4000 miles on it I would have parked it in my living room and me and my friends would stand around it drinking beer and talking about it.
Sounds like the Bat Mobile.

I would trade you a GN already built for that thing.

And I'd even move the battery to the trunk for you!

Deal?

If you have 15 K to spend on this buy a car cover for $100.00 cover this one up and leave it alone watch the price quadruple!! and buy another 11 second car for $14,900 that is already done!!!!!!! or buy Sullys car for 18K and run low 9s as soon as you get home with it!
That car of yours if nice and a true 4k on the timer (untouched)will be worth 60 to 80 k in 10 years

once you get past these garage furniture specialists.
Do a step by step write up on the car and your progress with lots of pictures

This is the one time I will not say "it's your car, do as you wish"....you need to keep the screwdrivers away from a 4k mile car.

I would have to agree, a buddy of mine just sold a 3000 mile car for almost $30,000 so he could buy a driver. He was tired of trailering it to shows more than 20 miles away.

Well here goes another one that will die

We're all dying and you can't take the car with you. To each their own. When my car is used up, I will take ANOTHER low mile example and start all over again. That way you know what you are starting with. There are plenty of investments that grow over time, but a turbo Buick not driven is not paying the smiles that it should be. The '86 part makes it rare, but I'd do the EXACT same thing you are doing. Live life man! Enjoy the car and welcome to the dark side.

It's just a car. A cool car but it's no GNX.

That being said, it's now your car and you can do what you want with it.

I bought mine with the same idea as you, I'm going to keep it for a long time and enjoy it, although mine was already done and had 46,000 miles on it.

What good is garage art, you can't fully enjoy it, screw the look but don't touch crowd and drive the crap out of it.

Trophy cars are for people with to much money, big egos and small [well you know] who try to impress others.

If you want you could probably sell it and make some coin [depending on what you paid]while getting a nice car with the right setup for you if you so choose.

No matter what you do read and learn before throwing parts at it and do it right the first time.

I have the original engine on a dolly and all the original parts that were taken off the car in case I want to put it back to stock in the future.

I bought mine with the setup in my sig with only 3,500 miles on the motor/trans.

You might want to consider that as an option in case you end up selling in the future, 4,000 mile motors are hard to come by and they made a hell of a lot less 86's then 87's.

Either way welcome to the TB family and have some fun while learning about these wonderful cars and their pros and cons. A fat wallet is almost essential but worth it.

ENJOY!!
