I have just installed a k&n filter on my gn. Is there any good tips on cleaning it that I could benefit from? I've never owned a k&n filter before. It did not come with any instructions, which I thought was kind of odd. It supposebly has a million mile warranty. I would assume just blowing it out with compressed air from the inside out every couple thousand miles?

Super! I'm going to order the service kit right now. Thank you

you can usually pick up a K&N filter service kit at Oreillys, AutoZone, etc, as most of those places sell the filters as well. Maybe that'll save you some shipping $. ;)

Our local Pep Boys has them as well up at the K+N ricer filter area. :p

Very detailed instructions come with the cleaning kit, just follow them. :)

I don't remember if it says in the instructions or not, but I let my oil dry overnight on it. Don't lube it, throw it on, and start going WOT right away.

But no blowing it out? That kit will remove all the dirt and junk?

don't use compressed air. you can tap the filter on the gound and it'll remove most. The way it works is you soak it in the cleaner for ~10 minutes or so, then rinse it, tap it, whatever. Then let it dry overnight, oil it, let that sit, you are good to go.

That's right, you can't hit it with compressed air, or a water hose nozzle. If you rinse it with a hose, take off any nozzle you may have and let the water easily flow over it from the inside out.

The filter media is medical gauze. It is very fragile when submitted to direct pressure (like a hose or air nozzle).

Personally, I like the squeeze bottle of recharge oil and not the spray can. You can get a more evenly distributed oil soaking back into the filter once you clean it.

Been doing this for years. 3 of my 4 vehicles have K&N's.

will the oil affect our MAF sensor ?
I want to say there has been debate on this. In my opinion, no. If there was a major problem, so many of us wouldn't be using them. Not to mention the many others who have flow sensors right behind the air filter on a variety of different cars and trucks.

The worst problem I can think of is maybe you might have to (carefully) wash it out with soapy water. I have used dish soap twice now without problem. But you do have to be careful. That thing is delicate.

i disagree on not spraying it with water, i have done this countless times and never had any problems.....it's ok to spray with water hose, just don't power wash it. i have had best results by soaking with 50/50 mixture of simple green and k&n cleaner....let soak for 15-20 minutes then spray off very good....let dry for hour or so then lightly spray oil on and let dry for 30 minutes before you put on car.

The oil shouldnt effect the maf sensor as long as you use it as instructed. The oil I have is red and I beleive the instructions say only to use enough to turn the filter media red then let it sit for a few hours.
