Howdy,

I know the obvious with the crank trigger rings but what about the weight and such?
Basically I'm building a mule motor to test my ECM and front cover experiments without breaking something expensive on my real motor. As such I'm simply taking a junkyard 3.8 and adding the correct balancer for the crank trigger and LC2 serpentine belt setup, my front cover with its gerotor oilpump, LC2 intake and all the associated sensors and wiring.

Thanks,

I've had a lot of these motors and from what I can tell the balancers are the same. The SFI balancer looks like a NA with the trigger ring. Now I have noticed that the 4.1 balancer has less weight than a 3.8 due to the heavier pistons. Now if you look in the parts catalog it shows the replacement balancer on the NA's being the same between the 3.8 and the 4.1. I would assume as long as you're using a balanced balancer than you should be okay. I would stick with the later one piece balancers. The earlier NA ones were a two piece deal with the big rubber band like a SBC.
