I have a bone stock limited and want to put her in the low 11s. Besides having my trans rebuilt, what will i need to put her in the mid 11s? This car will only be on the track to gain some mid 11s passes and 99 percent of the time will remain a once a week street driven cruiser. I would go faster but right now im on a budget and really just want to have a quick 11 second street car that will rip mid/low 11s anytime and otherwise just enjoy on the street. What parts do i need? Though been in Buicks a while, first true turbo car im going to modify so i need some advice as far as good combination that will run well and just something i can enjoy to romp on once in a while. By the way this is 100 percent bone stock 75k mile car with no mods whatsoever. Bought it from a farmer who had it stored and only drove it once in a while. Thanks in advance and also let me know what i should be looking to spend dollar wise for all these parts.

Fastest way would be trade the limited for one of my GNs.
Low 11s are harder to do then mid to high 11s.

Id start with the rear suspension first, those parts are the cheapest and easiest to figure out.

Box your stock upper and lower control arms, i wouldnt even bother swapping out the bushings.... I did both sets on my white limited on the car.

Get a airbag for the pass side and a ATR style rear sway bar.

You should have less than 200.00 total in all of that if you can weld, or know someone who can box your stock upper and lower rear control arms for free.

Id shoot straight for the 60# injectors with Erics chip set for methanol, and Julio Dons alky kit. TurboTweak Home Alkycontrol

Since the trans is going to be freshened, id get a 9/11 convertor or at least a great convertor that would spool a larger turbo and lockup for 3rd gear.

If your wanting mid 11s, the 44 is close, but that GT6152 turbo and a good convertor should put your car to the mid 11s fairly easy with traction.

Convertor and turbo combo is the key to having a quick street car, ive been running a 3800 9/11 convertor with a stock turbo for years, instant boost

Plus a good free flowing intercooler,3"downpipe,slicks,ect ect ect will help get the times down.

I'd say low 11s are a $10K proposition. Now everyone will post that they did it for $1.95 on street tires with no scan tool, home ported heads, DIY alky, lots of junk yard and garage sale stuff, plus free labor from a dozen of their certified mechanic and welder buddies.

As a side note, I'd leave your bone stock, 1 of 1,035 Limited alone and do it with a ratty GN or the like.

Mine only cost me $2.95. I had to buy a bottle of Mad Dog for the alcoholic welder buddy.:D He welds better when he's "juiced", and he forgets that it took 750 hours, too.

Oh wait.......I did all the welding myself, and I prefere Sky vodka.:p

I agree, that if you are paying anyone to do the mods for a low 11 sec car, you'll be in the wallet about 8-10 "C" notes, minumum. Race gas or methanol, tires, entry fees, helmet, fire coat, roll bar, food, travel money, turbo, wheels, lugnuts, gauges, scan tool, chip, pump, filter, down pipe, exhaust, suspension, shocks, light bumpers, throttle body, intercooler, hoses, torque converter, transmission upgrade, posi rebuild, new U-joints, seat belts (every two years:mad: ) chip, injectors, plug wires, plugs, header welding, and more header welding, axles, hot wire kit, front and rear bushings, body bushings, fuel lines, light radiator,...................It all adds up. Do the work for yourself, and you can get by alot cheaper. I don't have a TON of money in my car, but I have a TON, HUGE TON (is that a proper phrase?) of tme in my car. I really do not want to add up all the parts and all the freebie stuff I used that I accumulated over 20 years of working on these cars. Buy one that is already done and you will come out WAY ahead.:)

Wouldnt that be 80 -100 "C" notes:eek:

I really dont think mid 11s would be too expensive with the simple mods, ta49, methanol, tires, suspension, chip and some wheelin and dealin:smile:

BW

Fuel pump/hot wire, 28x10.5 slicks, fender dump, 100-125hp nitrous kit, remove as much weight as possible, chip with adjustable parameters (turbotweak), 7 gallons of c16. You should be well into the 11's with the above and cheap. Still on stock turbo and intercooler. You will have to open up the wastegate hole to .900. A wide band data logger to dial it in

This is what I am going to try.

Fuel
-AFPR
-Walbro intank pump
-Hot wire kit
-60lbs injectors
-Alky Control Kit

Spark
-Turbo Tweak Chip
-MSD Wires
-43 Plugs

Air
-Stock Intercooler
-Stock Headers
-Hooker Exhaust
-TH Down Pipe
-66MM BB Turbo

Grip
-Upper and Lower Control Arms from previous project
-Air bags (I want a real sway bar)
-Weld Pro Stars from my another project
-275/60/15 MT Drag Radials

Wish me luck!!!

this is what where trying

87 Turbo T 14,000 miles

Adj. Fuel Pressure Regulator
Walbor 340 hotwired
42.5lb injectors
GT6131E with RJC boost controller
Stock Intercooler
Stock Motor and Heads
Power Logger with LC-1
TT Chip
TH DP and ATR 3 In Dual Exhaust
K&N Filter
Razors ALLKY
M/T 275/60/15's
RJC Power Plate
RJC Plug Wires and NGK UR5's

All I had to do was take him for a ride now he's hooked.
Everybody's pretty much covered it.
1. Fuel system. pump, hotwire, regulator, injectors, chip
2. Intake / Exhaust. Big Mouth or similar, TH style downpipe, Hooker catback
3. Now your ready for turbo, intercooler

I agree rear suspension items are nice to have but could wait till down the road. Stock suspension and 275 drag radials will get you your goal. OK, maybe air bags.

p.s. definitely throw in the ALKY

As your stated "least inexpensive" actually = "most expensive", I'd say you're on the wrong track. Keep the Limited nice/ stock and, purchase a "race car" w/ most of the mods already done & they have already overspent & killed the budget, need the money for divorce proceedings & etc., etc.

go fast cheap?

Hi,
I started on the cheap years ago, with a donated car and a $750 grand national donor, but it's not that way anymore.I pulled the motor to go through it last year, and am just now putting the engine in shape to install it. I would say I easily put $2000 in it alone, with me doing all the work, except machining.I will be running a TA49 and 42.5lb injectors, stock headers, downpipe, converter and intercooler.Years ago, I bought a junkyard trans for the car, and it has just a shift kit and 2800 stall convertor. We shall see how it holds up to the new motor.
I don't expect miracles from the car, but would like to break into the 11s, anyway. If not, se la vie.I just want to eat some rice on the street, ya know? My TTA is way too nice to whoop on, so this will be my daily driving hotrod. I'm too immature for 600 hp,so I am sure 400 will see me fine. Who wants to run 150 in a Regal, anyway?
Speaking of overpowered nuts, I have a friend with an '06 Z06 'Vette who has gone off the deep end.He had the motor reworked at 200 miles, then added a nitrous kit to boot.It runs 135 in the quarter mile, but he can't launch ithard for fear of shattering the rear end. anyway, he tells me he has been dusting off modified street bikes with it, and runs it all the way up to 150 mph. On the street, that is out of line.I imagine it doesn't take too long for him to get there.
I am off the topic, but as a closer, let's just say that I built my motor for reliable, powerful service, and it could probably handle 500 plus hp RELIABLY.
The bills keep adding up,but then I am not as deep into it as my 'Vette buddy.Live within your means, always! Good luck with your project.

I would say that since your car is bone stock, to keep it that way. it is worth more money. i know it's *ss backwards, but when you dump a ton of money into a car to 'supe' it up, all that money actually devalues the car. you could sell your car for a good penny, and then buy a car that's already set up. you would put some money in your pocket that way.

if you still want to do the car up yourself, just keep it's original parts so you can convert it back to stock later if you want. how clean is the car? have any pics?

i think you're talking close to $4000 in parts for a bigger turbo, stretched intercooler, injecters, converter, alky kit, sticky tires, driveshaft loop. That assumes you buy everything new. That's just a start and doesn't include labor or other misc. stuff.

anyway, post a pic and good luck!

I'm consistently amused by these lists. Hell, I just put over $100 worth of hose clamps into my buddy's car, but I guess you guys are still running the stock ones? I could go on and on, but those of you who've done it get my point.

ha. bottom line. 9 times out of 10, modified cars go for less money than original cars. btw, are you running the original air in your tires? is the oil in your engine factory?

Pics of my ride. To clarify this, I want to keep my car as stock as possible, no ported heads or wild cam, etc. I have been hearing from majority of my turbo friends it will cost about 4k in parts, which is about what i want to spend. The car will hit the track once in a great while but i just want a quick spooling turbo car that can kick some serious A$$ on the street. I want to enjoy it as a cruiser and if i decide i want to put it back to stock i want the modifications to be bolt ons and not something i regret like tubbing my car or hacking it up into a tube chassis car, as my funds are simply not there and I just want an honest to goodness wolf in sheeps clothing quick street car. It will always be a street driven cruiser and will hardly if ever hit the track, only to see what i can get out of the combinations. I would say 11.50s is what i would really shoot for, as my friends 87 T did it with minimal modifications so that is what i want. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated and hope you enjoy the pics!

This is exactly what I want to do.
I want to go mid 11.50s on a very small budget with a high 10's capable engine, Trans and rear.
Common guys keep the info coming.
