i have been working on the car for a few mos. [more like 6-7] ... with lots of delays from powder coaters and parts people... well i finally got everything and have been wrenching 3days straight and decided to make it to BG.... well i am here..... with some issueso_O

1) i have developed a weird and annoying rattle, to me it sounds like its coming from the tranny but i did not do any work in that area... i double checked all the TC bolts and they are nice and tight.... seems to go away in Neutral and while cruising

2) i have been experiencing a hard start problem... dont know why - never had this issue...FP is good and i hope it is getting good spark.... which leads me to

3) replaced the Ignition system with Bob's TR6... dont know if its related but - SOMETIMES - while cruising on the highway the tach signal stays at 1000 and then randomly shoots up to 3000 or 2000...it looks like a graphic equalizer... when this happens it will die at idle..... other times the tach signal is fine and it will idle fine


help a brotha out....


oh and the things i did were replace Heads/Gaskets with some stock ported i had laying around, replaced rocker arms and installed the TR6...and removed EGR - everything else was just removed for detailing

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Sounds kind of like Craig's troubles on the Power Tour in '07, '08 and '09. Have you checked your MAF, chip and when or have you ever changed the TCC solenoid?
 
i'll double check all the grounds at the track tomorrow.... i thought i triple checked them before i left ..lol ... i will also re-read my instruction manual...maybe a dip switch is wrong or something...


@Craig... yeah sounds like an ol'skool powertour happening, this time im on the receiving end...lol... doesnt sound like my TCC..had a bad one before, also lockup works fine. dunno its real odd, never had this sound before... didnt even have problems with the trans before the teardown.

whatever it is, its really pissing me off - i am kinda embarrassed driving... i will have to open the dump to stop the pain...lol

the tach bouncing around is giving you a fault code. it blinks them out using morse codes kinda like the stock ecm flashing the check engine light..

Check out that code and the other issues might be related.

was just reading the instruction manual and was thinking the same thing.... now i have to try and decipher it... luckily i had to wife record it while i was driving... would the fault code appear even if no Malfunction codes were seen by the ECM?

yes

The fault detection in the tr6 is stand alone from the ecm .
 
the video was kinda a choppy, the wifey was shaking a little bit while reaching over and recording... i will probably remove the unit tomorrow and double check dip switches and grounds....it sux... i guess this is what happens when i rush. i really want to remote mount the unit on the fenderwell and run individual coils but decided to throw it together to make the trip to BG... funny thing i almost packed the stock setup just in case.
 
i really need to figure out the retarded noise coming from the car.....hopefully i can borrow a jack and some jackstands at the track

Have pat (SloGn) update the software in the TR6, it sounds like you have an old version.
 
Is that your car parked at the motel 6?
yesiirrrr - the dusty T-Limited that sounds like ass right now is my pride and joy :D

and to Bob - yes my TR-6 is one of the first batch and definitely hasnt had any software updates... is there a link to the updates anywhere?

Should be able to get some good help out in BG

Hey Peter - i just installed the radiator too and i must say - cooling definitely is NOT a problem;).
i do know from the install though i am almost positive that i cannot fit TWO huge fans with my intercooler.... i am glad i didnt order those yet... but however i think i may be able to fit one large and one small... if the small is on the R [passenger] side. What are your thoughts on a hybrid fan/shroud combo - with one high flow one reg flow fan?

Bob i talked to Pat for a little while - unfortunately he forgot his laptop that had the software.... if you could when you get a chance it would be much appreciated...

Damn Aaron, I didn't know you were at BG...I was at the Motel 6 as well. I was on the back side of the building with NO internet...signal wouldn't reach there.Wish I could have run into you...

yep i was there... i parked next to Pete Hoffman and Dennis Kirban on the vendor row across from our club tent... thats crazy we were at the same motel. Did you drive your car?
