After reading just about every post in the trans section, I came across a piece of info to double check. A lo/reverse clearance of 1/8 to 3/16 is acceptable for these trannys? Just seems real wide to me for a trans that seems so sensitve to so many other settings.

That is correct. You don't need tight clearances on the low/reverse clutch. The clutch is only used in manual low and reverse. The trans does not use this clutch when shifting forward gears so timing is not an issue. You want the clearances loose so there is minimal drag when your in 2-3-4 gear.
 
When I put mine together I kept counting the clutches felt way too loose......
Works fine though.
 
A clearance equal to the thickness of one of the lo/rev frictions is fine.
