Kevin:biggrin:

driving....

im a local driver but think of a few things before you decide if you are married and you want to go over the road it will not work she will get tired of waiting if you have little kids you will never see them and if the truck is not moving 24/7 you dont make money .... lol other then that if you like to drive and dont really care about being home then its a good thing ... i chose to drive local and i love it

How old are you? What do you work on now. I drove for a jap moving company 20 years ago and I moved heavy equipment for a while and its alot of fun but it gets old fast. If your good at what you do stick with it for now

Tired of being a mechanic for 30 years,:mad:started out of high school.Don"t want to do it for 15 more years.I am not thinking this is going to be a bed of roses, just different:rolleyes:.Kids are in high school and college,so i thought it might be a good time for a change:cool:

my cousin has a wife and 2 kids and was a carpenter, now he is a truck driver over the road and is home about 1 1/2 days a week. he hates it with a passion but it is paying the bills until a local job comes along. If your a loner and like being gone go for it, if you have hobbies and a family then think twice .

Still looking at this, any other truckers on here:cool:

Kevin

Well I work on them now so does that count Kevin?:D From what I've seen you can make some decent money but unless you team up with the wife you'll miss being home. I just met an old guy the other day and he stays on the road for 3 months at a time. That just doesn't sound fun to me, but he's a team driver and his team mate was a young lady. She wasn't half bad looking either so I guess he's getting some when it gets cold out.;)

I am just tired of the mechanic thing:rolleyes:If the wife went with me it would be fun,BUT she is happy at home:confused:I think the key is getting on with a good company:cool:

Funny you say that because I went to working on trucks at Com Ed back in september. They asked me If I wanted to get into being an overhead linesman. Im afraid of heights and electric so I will keep my ass in the garage. Messing with 750kv lines is not my thing.lol

Kevin...you quit being a mechanic about a year ago...or are you back doing it again?

My buddy is a lineman. He makes REALLY good money at it. Lots of travel when the storms hit though.

Long haul? Just not good for a married, family guy. I drive local. Home every night. If I could stand being gone, I'd be in N Dakota. Lots to be made but being gone just won't work for me.

If I was going to do anything else right now I'd buy a tractor w/a decent sleeper and hit it hard 2-3 days a week and be off the rest. Or maybe try to get a dedacated load or two a week and do that. Get it paid for and take as good care if it to make it last as long as I could.

I drive local,I live in pa and go to New York city 3 times a week, home every night. If I had another better option i probably wouldnt drive a truck but its all I know and it pays my bills .The trucking industry keeps going downhill more all the time & the regulations keep getting tighter all the time.Been driving local for about 15 years and things have changed a lot in that time.I can only imagine the changes the old timer drivers have seen. That being said I do have enjoyable days in the truck too.So if you can find a good company to work for,you can always give it a shot,if you dont like it I am sure someone will still need a good mechanic right?Good luck whatever you decide to do.
