Looking for a GN....

Hi,
I am 15, and am in love with GN's :biggrin:. Within the next year or so I am doing some window shopping and hope to get one. Any advice on what to look for, as far as body/engine. I DON'T wont a '84 or '85 hot-air, I am looking for a '86 or 87. Thanks

Hey man,

two years ago I was in the same boat as you. Loved em but never enough money.

All I have to say is read, read, read. Learn about them. Try to find some guys in your town that will be willing to talk to you about em. The guys I've talked to around me have been really cool.

Save your money now! Try to save money as much as you can. Find a summer job to save up.

I started saving my money seriously about a year ago from summer jobs and after school jobs and I have money to buy one now, and I'm just a 17 year old kid, So it can happen. Also don't let all them ricers, mustang and camaro guys try to tell you GNs suck. (The kids around here sometimes do, but they have a very small grasp on them)

But I test drove a few GNs before. Also, if lets say you get so much money and want a car sooner, you could always get a loan from the bank. Your parents will have to Co-sign on it, but besides that it helps.

Also, T-Types are cheaper then GNs. Just in case if you didnt know.

Just keep saving and read up on em. Hope you have luck!

Ya if you end up with a solid running car, you will be in love. Dont let the ego get stroked too much though, be carefull and dont do anything crazy. Enjoy it, dont destroy it.

In the younger days I use to drive out to rural cruise nights just to get the ooo's and ah's over the car. That was in my 20's, if you're 16 boy oh boy.

One other thing, dont have it stolen. Take care of it, and it will take care of you.

thanks for the advise, and i know were u guys are commin from. When i get my GN i will treasure it and take care of it like a member of the family. I just want to be one of the kids with a real piece of american history, not some ricer or mustang.I will be sure to use the info u guys gave me.

check out www.gnttype.org, the sites back up now, it was down for a while, there is a wealth of info there, including a pretty good buyers guide. one piece of advice, be careful with it, no offense but a young kid with a powerful car can be a bad combo, just be smart and use youre head and you should be fine. also keep it on the track, street racing is stupid, dangerous and not to mention illigal, even more so if you dont have any driving expeirince. im sure you already know that. dont mean to preach but i thought it should be said. just be safe.

Well i wish you luck on finding one. These cars are very fun but they are also very picky. Just take your time and find the one you want dont rush into it. If you want T-Tops wait for it. You know what i mean. Talk to people here and around your area. there are lots of guys in jersey that own Turbo Regals. Well enough of me rambling. Good luck.

You may want to look into car insurance first, at your age the insurance companys will bend you over and stick it to you Sorry, can't seem to get brokeback mountain out of my head :tongue:
Probably your best chance is to put the car under Mom or Dad, if they let you

IMHO Unless your a Very responsible kid, I'd say this isn't the best choice for a first car. Too much power + posi + wet\snow = :frown:

You better work alot & save those PENNIES because the GN's are going up & UP... As suggested look at a T-type/turbo regal they tend to be lower in price.

i know what u are sayin, and i know that this v-6 is pussin 245hp, and 355touqe. One of my family members has one, and i have been working on it, and practicing on it for 3 years. And i will be carfull as hell with it, its a piece of American history. The type im lookin for is a hard top, 86 or 87 with a little body body work needed, and anywere between 80-120 thousand miles. i want to put alot of work into it, and i know it will be hard as hell, but im up for it.thanks for the advice.
