I am driving along and it just dies and will not restart, pop the hood and its showing no pressure on the fuel guage. I unplugged the fp relay and jump it with a paper clip and badabing i have pressure and it starts. The paper clip got to hot so i shut it off plugged the relay back in no start. Tried the paper clip again and got no pressure, however, got a little sparking during the jump. I jacked around for a few minutes plugged the relay back in abd it started and ran fine back to the garage. The fuel pump is new yesterday and all the wires and connectors and grounds are good as far as i could tell, also wiring to the pump has been upgraded. I will buy a new relay tomorrow. If anyone has something else i can check or look at please let me know or if you have experienced something similar i would love to hear all suggestions.

oh yeah

it was doing this before the new pump so i replaced it not sure which pump was in it. it has never done this cold.

new relay

My relay is being energized with the gray fuel pump prime behind the alternator, could this cause my loss of fuel pressure due to the original relay going bad?

replaced both relays

the fuel pump, and the fuel filter and still losing fuel pressure. Is it possible a damaged or defective regulator cuold cause this problem?

When you refer to "new wiring", is that a hot wire kit, or ???
Tank ground in place?
Relay get hot?
U R referring to psi loss.. Is that after the pump is shut off? Or??
If the pump check valve is inop, this will happen. [Or, if the pump has no check, it will]
It will also lose psi if the pump to hanger connection is leaking. Did you use the old noise attuenator, or hose and clamps?
You should be able to make a jumper that will plug into the gray connector, and hook to the output on the alt. To test, I use a self resetting breaker in the line..That way, you won't use up fuses if there's a shorted condition.

the wiring

i am refering to is a hotwire, i am losing psi because the pump is shutting down, and when i try to restart sometimes i get my 2 second prime and usually not when at operating temp. this has never happen when cold.i did use a new hose and clamps. it was doing this before i changed the pump. if i start it now it will start and run great, after awhile it will just die and then eventually start. this whole scenario is very erratic.i am affraid to run any boost and should get my new 6262bb next week. i guess im losing a signal from computer. no codes.dumb question, regulator?i have never had one go bad. when i get fuel pressure and turn off the car it does hold pressure.also i am running an oil pressure guage with no idiot light it is not connected to anything and is not touching anything and the wires are heat shrinked closed

Ok, what was the "new" fuel pump that was installed? And what was the old one?

the new pump

is an aeromotive and the old pump was a walbro and i caught the plug being different on the new one it has the correct polarity

just did it again while driving

at 40 mph it just died got out checked fuel pressure guage it was 0. it wouldnt prime or start for awhile then started and ran fine. it wouldnt do it when i got to my tools so i could check the green and white wire for voltage from computer ANY INPUT IS APPRECIATED

still loses pressure

i have installes a new fule pump, relays, fuel filter, and the green and white wire from the ecu is energizing the relay, checked all the wiring including in tank. The only thing i can find is a .42 voltage drop between the tank and tank straps which i will resolve tomorrow. HELP

With the issue happening after a half hour or so of running fine, and then running fine after you cool it off for awhile; it really sounds like the fuel is getting hot and vaporizing. Is it happening moreso when you are running at low levels of fuel in the tank, less than 1/4? How hot is it where you are? 100f+?

its been over 100

here alot, vapor lock crossed my mind but at 40 plus psi? i am usually at half a tank and never less than a quarter of a tank according to the guage. one other thing i tried was removing the gas cap after it died,no change. shot in the dark at a clogged tank vent. half a tank is enough to keep the pump cool? all suggestions are appreciated.

Not vapor lock in the pressurized fuel line necessarily, I am talking about fuel vaporizing right at the point that it enters the pump in the tank. If it is 100f+ and you are circulating fuel up to the hot engine and back at a high rate, pretty soon the fuel will get extremely hot, the pump also gets really hot, the fuel no longer is cooling the pump, and then the fuel can start to vaporize as it hits the pump inlet. You are typically OK if you keep the pump submerged fully, but not in all cases.

However, if you have experienced this same issue with two different fuel pumps, the root cause is likely not the fuel pump.

Did you ever get this situation straight? I seem to be having one similar.

I checked for shorts to ground at the 3 pin connector where the fuel tank harness plugs into the wire harness (behind the bumper) & all checked ok, until I plugged the connector in & probed the 12v lead to find a dead short.

I do not understand how the 12v lead shorted out when the connector was connected & all tests were good when not connected.

I spliced the wires together & tossed the connector.

I think I have the same exact problem. I checked everything possible as you did and everything is good. I got to the back and the connector has +12 untill it's plugged in. Than, dead short. It's probably a wire pinched or something under the tank. I'm gonna drop it and find out.
