lower control arm question...boxed or tubular?

I'm running stock lca's & I'm looking at buying some aftermarket ones..
The 3 things I'm considering doing are:
1) Boxing my stock lowers
2) Buying tubular non-adjustable lca's like UMI's (see vendor's section for their October sales on these...89.00
3) buying non-adjustable boxed lca's from whoever has the best deal?

Is there a big performance difference between these 3?

Depends what youre doin with the car. Cant beat nice adjustable tubulars, but I just boxed all my stock ca's in and added stiffer rubber bushings and it made a world of difference. Boxed stock ca's are good enough for my daily driven GN. Cant beat the price either.

Trying to get the best bang for the buck too...what would it cost to box the stock lca's & install new bushings? What about the tubular lca's for 89.00? Would they work as good?

seeing that i have a welding friend it wont cost me anything to box. all i would have to do is buy the bushings and press them in myself. but i would think it would cost for all 4 arms 50.00 plus bushings.

I purchased the UMI lowers & I'm very happy-especially considering the price
PS-make sure you buy their bolt kit to do the job right!

I used the UMI's on my daughters car ... work great ..they are tubular... I guess I value my time as far as having a 20 year old control arm boxed up how fast you lookin to go ???

Hope to eventually reach into the 10's, so would like to just buy once now & not have to worry about buying again..so, if the tubular UMI's are strong enough to do that, then I'd probably just buy them....especially for only 89.00

well she just ran 11.4s @118 in street trim last week taking it easy .... Ill let ya know what happeneds this weekend providing we don't get rained out

That sounds great Grumpy....what other suspension mods have you done & what are her 60 ft. times?

ATR rear sway bar .....and new shocks She went 1.8s friday night . She runs drag radials so she doesn't really come out that hard but she will hopefully improve this weekend

I love my UMI's. I got them last fall ( the tubular lca's ) and they've been great. I like them so much I'm planning on getting their tubular uppers, I just can't decide on the fixed or adjustable.

The Darkside- Our tubular control arms have no problems going down the track in 10 seconds . You will be fine with them, there is quite a few members on this board as you can see running them with great results.

What would be considered the better design for a hot street set up that may see the track only 2 or 3 times a year? The tublar or the aftermarket box style??

I like the tubular. Just as strong and lighter. The UMI stuff is very nice, works, and priced right

I have had consistent 60' times in the 1.46 - 1.48 range and ran 10.7's - 10.8's with boxed stockers and 1LE rubber bushings.
