always use jackstands! idiot trying to jack the car back up didn't close the valve, then just stands up and looks around. if that was me under there and got out ok i'd be looking to kick some ass!of course i use the stands so i wouldn't have to worry about it

Damn! Jackstands and make sure no idots are around to lean on the jack handle.

I have seen

2 such "accidents" around here...
1 was a guy putting a lift kit on his new Tahoe. Put the stands rite at the rear kickup, used no chocks, took the rear wheels off. He then proceeded to lie under the truck, and kicked the breaker bar, to loosen the u bolts.. You can guess what happened next... He earned the Darwin award. His wife found him, with the truck sitting on his chest. Tango uniform!:frown:
#2.. A guy working on his car.. jack only, and on DIRT yard!
Jack rolled over, car came down.. The end.

I always use stands and also throw a set of wheels under as well, and then some ramps facing outwards under the frame too, and leave the jack about .25 inches. That way if the stands fail, the jack will catch, then if that fails, at least the frame has 15x7's or some sturdy ramps to drop on top of. I think 7 inches is better than flat if I'm under there. And I always try to stay in a position that is least vurnerable- ie never under the pumkin of the rearend or rotors.

To lay under a car with just the jack supporting it is a chance I would never take. In a busy shop with people around working makes it even worse. Basic safety 101. I hope he is ok.

Yep. That's just the kind of people you want around when there's an emergency. Idiots.

Hopefully he limped away with some broken ribs. He's as much as fault as anyone and it's a prime example of why customers usually aren't allowed in the work area. As far as the numbnuts trying to operate the jack afterwards, he panicked and wasn't thinking clearly, some people fold with pressure. :(

There was just something similar on the news here in FL, some guy doing something under a late model VW bug when it pinned him. Four ladies pumping gas came to his rescue, lifted it while he escaped.

That is exactly why I dont let customers in the shop. I love when they walk out to look at their cars and I nicely ask them to please go back into the waiting room or stand outside the service bay to watch. You should see the disgust on their faces, like Im the biggest A-hole ever. Maybe I should have this video to show them WHY they shouldnt be in the shop??
