Anyone heard of thouble with Precisions multi disc staying locked or so tight that the car will die when trans is engaged ? Especially when fluid is cold.

I had similar problems with a 7 disc PI .. Funny thing is is that they said I was the only one to ever have that problem.. weird huh

I have a 7 disc PI. Never had a problem with it "staying" locked, or not unlocking when commanded.

However, yes, the car will stall when shifted into gear with cold/cool fluid.

Hi Lee one of the fellas that had this issue was Deren in Dayton.

Thinking about putting in the 7 disc this spring
Now I'm not sure I want to do it
Would Syn fluid help reduce the stalling?

I'm haveing the same problem.Installed last fall and don't remember it stalling the engine then.Using type F fluid probably doesn't help when its this cold.I've found a little extra rpm on the initial gear engagement prevents the engine stall. After the first engagment it seams to work normal afterwords.Just another quirk i guess.

That is normal when the car is cold. I have had it happen with 7 discs and 5 discs. They are fine once they get a little warm. I usually have that happen after the car sits overnight.

Lonnie I thought that problem sounded familiar. Lee, I had that problem with mine, and as Grumpy said in his post, Jack @ PI said I was the only person that he had seen have this problem. Seemed like I had to jump through hoops for him to fix it. Jack swore it was a problem with the trans, and not his converter. He did fix it though for FREE. Deren

Thanks to all who replied

Talked to Vicky @ PI this morning. She is sending me a new convertor. I will switch them out when it gets here. She did say that this does happen sometimes. Looks like to get the rattle out of the multi disc that they tightened t up the clutch clearance. Which created another problem. @ least I didn't have to jump through hoops to get something done.

7 disk here and I was wondering why mine doesn't rattle. Yes it will stall the car on the cold startup gear engagement. To me its less trouble to tap the gas on the very first shift of the day than to swap out converters.

That is how I am too. It is not that bad. But I wish it was not there either. :p

I had a lot of the 7 disc when they came out.. PI fixed mine for $250 each  back then .. imagine having all those trannys being bad:eek: IF ya want to lock em up Bruce @ PTS's 9/11 (in Melissa's 9 sec @ 138+) works the balls and drive like a Cadillac :p ..

ok typed this this morning..had to leave to "do" a trans. Had a 7 disc PI Vig in it ... Couldn't just put the car in reverse because it would just keep stalling  guess ya either love em or hate em  oh for sale to $300 shipped .. I would send it back for a rebuild .

not mine

No matter how much throttle I give it, it dies. Definately TOO tight.
