I'm amazed that nobody has mentioned a chip with anti-theft capabilities yet. Just another idea.

My security:
Column guard
Kirbans Mystery Alarm
Aftermarket Alarm
Anti-Theft in Extender Chip

I've never been worried about someone getting in my car cause they wouldn't be able to go anywheres. But I have worried about people breaking into my trunk. I've thought of taking the trunk lock out and then filling the hole. As well as coming up with some sort of cable system to hold the trunk lid down , you would release the cable holding down the trunk lid from inside the car, in a hidden area. We did something like this in my sisters honda accord, you had to unlock her backseats, fold them down and then undo the cable to be able to open her trunk. Her car was stolen the day after I started but didn't complete installing her alarm system. The thing we didn't notice, but the thieves did while dismantling the car, was that if you took out her rear shelf speakers from inside you could get a pair of cutters through the speaker hole and cut the cable. OOPS!.

I've also been curious about a steering wheel release system for our cars, but haven't been able to find one.

While a club, like any other device, is not foolproof, the thief can't help but notice it on your column. This may cause him not to stick a screwdriver in your door, causing hundreds of dollars in damage. Less visible devices don't help in this manner.

If you want the removable steering wheel, Grant sells a kit to do it. Only caveat is that you have to use one of their steering wheels with it. Don't remember what it costs but that kit has been out for a long time, shouldn't be to hard to find (my local pep boys carried it as of like 6 months ago).

marc86mcss and 87grandnat check your PM. I trust you will not post the PM information on the board. IMHO publically posting kill switch information is foolish.

i unplug my computerby the battery if i'm somewher i think i might have to worry about my car. I also have some really old starter interupt thing. it uses a little square plastic thing that you wave under a sensor hidden in the dash, once it beeps you can start the car. but without the sensor being activated it will take some doing to start the car. i have a way around it incase it quites working on me (happend once) i know exactly how to do it, and it still took me 10 minutes to do it.

I've been wanting to put a switch on the inside of the car to kill the computer. which wire is it? I knwo its orange, but i think there is 2 orange ones, one in each plug. also do i need a relay or just a good switch? i have the perfect hiding place.

STEADFAST is great. As are the other things listed in this thread.

I got sick of worrying so I got another car to be my driver/beater. Now I don't worry as much. Another danger of using the GN as a daily driver is the potential for someone else to hit you and wreck your pride and joy. The GN is a weekend car now and I love it in that role.

Mistascott is right, buy a beater, save your GN. There are too many pukes out there who would like to joyride your car or part it out. Since the puke car thieves did not get your ride, they will really be on your heels. Now i would really be worried about getting CAR JACKED. Don't take your GN back to that local hang out. If you go up there without your GN and people ask you were your GN is, tell them you no longer have it. Word travels fast even to the thieves. Don't mean to scare you but people have died losing their cars.

This is so true

And some people won't hesitate a bit...it is the times that we live in. Buy yourself some peace of mind and get something that's safe, reliable, and gets alot of gas to the dollar.....you'll sleep much easier.

You want to make your car as different as possible from the standard GN/Ttype setup.
If a thief wants a specific car, they are going to do their homework, and find out where the wires go, the colors, the quickest way to get in, how to defeat the factory systems...etc
This is all fine if they are attempting to steal an untouched factory car. Now, if you change wire colors, where wires go, etc, it makes that job a lot tougher. And anything that is gonna take them more time to figure out is gonna increase your chances of keeping your car. Time is their enemy.

A couple of suggestions.

Install your own alarm, I don't trust alarm places and besides I do a better job.

99% of car alarms are placed in the dash above the drivers legs, thieves go there first. Mine is located in a very different location.

Most alarms are disabled once the alarm box is cut or removed from its harness rendering the car unprotected. My alarm and most others can operate power locks, one wire fires for locking and another fires for unlocking. Those wires can be used to trip a latching relay. This relay can disable/enable anything you want. Locate it somewhere remote from the alarm box. Even thieves who know their alarms will not bother following the wires they "know" go to the locks. Disable the armed alarm and the relay stays latched in the protected position. Only the alarm will fire the unlock wire properly to enable the protected device. GO to Digikey.com for a selction of relays.

Best of all as long as I use my alarm the latching relay fires passively. There is nothing extra to remember or teach anyone.
