Here's what can/will happen if injs are left in the open air, left in the rails w/ $hitty fuel in them, run w/ a dirty tank, bought used and not cleaned prior to use...Yadda, yadda...
These are out of a turbo Supra. [550CC/RC injs] They were responsible for 1 engine failure, and a $hitty performing replacement engine. Bought used, and not cleaned/tested.
The first 2 fotos are as I received them. [3&4 are after the baskets were removed, but B4 cleaning.] I pulled the filter baskets out, and WALA!! All 6 performed flawlessly. Cleaned them,[saw no performance improvement], and replaced the wear items. Good to go!
FWIW, this is the second set of RC injs that I've seen do this. Baskets plugged, but looked to be holding a minimal amt of dirt..Hmmnn. First set was a set of 750CC.
SCARY!!

Chuck, when you tear down the engine for 6 months or longer whats the best way to store them? I always put them in ziplock baggies. Any need for lubricant as well? Thanks!

I would:
Shake out the fuel.
Squirt some WD in each inj. Use care not to rupture the filter basket.
Cap them off.
Put in a Ziploc baggie, and store in a dry place.
Depending on the miles, it may be a good idea to change the o'rings when re-installing. Sometimes, when I get a set that's been out for a while, I find the original rings will leak,[shrunk/dried out], when I make the preliminary flow test. It's happened so often, I just put the new rings on to begin with..

Thanks! I have put a bit of WD-40 on them before for lube. I have a box of O-Rings & change them after a year or two usually. I got a 100 for not much $$ so I am probably on the over cautious side but better safe I figure.
