i just saw a buick commercial for the 2011 regal turbo....it's a 6-spd with turbo....anyone else seen this commercial yet?

I had been watching those cars for a while thinking I would get one, since I thought it would be badass to have a 1987 TR and a 2011 TR...but I broke down and bought a new truck :)

I've read several articles about them and they seem like awesome cars. They are built in Germany on an Opel platform and are quite European...a lot of the muscle car purists don't like that. I'd buy one.

Plus you can tweak the turbo

I looked. Just for a second though. To weak knee'd. 220 HP 7.5 0-60. Nothing impressive there, a normally aspirated V6 will eat it alive.

No thanks, I'll keep saving up for a Ford twin turbo 3.5V6. At least there's some grunt there.

Buick really has to bring the AWD 2.8 Turbo version over here from Europe it has 325 HP and won 2009 Euro car of the year. Its called the Opel Insignia OPC over there and The Vauxhall Insignia OPC in the UK.
I am very happy with my new Regal it replaced a 10 year old Jeep Cherokee and its not a muscle car but a sport sedan; the other benefit is it doesn't share a similar body with any other GM model and the styling and many standard features beat most of the domestic and import competition. I don't know where $35k was quoted but that is way too much, mine was $28K.

Lets hear what some of the purists have to say about the whole 6speed, 4 cylinder, AWD thing and why or why not they like it.

GS Next year they say supposed to be faster and will probably cost closer to 40K too.

I test drove one last month. I was very impressed with the car overall. I've always preferred small cars, and this suits my style well. I likes the styling, the interior, the ride, and especially the stereo/NAV system.

2 things I don't like:
1.I think it's overpriced for this size car. The only thing that really sets it apart from a much cheaper car is the stereo, but that's my opinion.
2. - and the real deal breaker - is the lack of power. Am I expecting it to be a tire-roasting muscle car, no. But frankly, the car is painfully slow. The car rags criticize it as well for underperforming compared to similar size and cheaper cars.

I know it's defunct as of last year, but you could get Pontiac G8 GT's a year ago for less money....more car.

It's a shame they made it so underpowered for how expensive it is because I like the look. But think for a lot less money you could buy the new Kia Optima with a 278hp turbocharged 2.4l 4cyl and I think it looks pretty nice. Person who designed this Kia was the former head of design at Audi/VW. His name is Peter Shreyer & he's widely known in the design world as one of top three most respected car designers in the world today. He designed the original Audi TT, Lamborgini Murcielago, Audi A6, VW New Beetle, & other VW& Audi cars while he was head of design there for many years.

But if I wanted to stay American which I rather would look at the new Dodge Charger. It was pretty boring when it was first re-released but it's redisgned now and just the base V6 makes 292 hp. You can get the R/T with 370hp or the SRT-8 with 470hp and it's probably priced around the top of the line Regal.

I'm sure just like when the charger came out it wasn't much and that's probably the case with the Regal. Give it a few years and I'm sure they'll probably have some better features and a better engine. Just think when the Regal first came out in the 70's it wasn't something that made people turn their heads. Look how long it took before they they thought of using a turbo V6 instead of an underpowered government regulated gas sucking V8. If I had to spend the money right now I'd choose one of the first two options I mentioned but I'm excited to see what Buick puts out down the road.

I look at it as a start. The late 70's turbo Regals wern't that great on performance either but the platform got better as it went and hopefully the news cars will be the same. A lot of guys wont like it because it doesn't look just a 87 GN and I am always a little confused by that. When the 86-87 cars came out they looked nothing like the 70-72 GS's Buick's previous flagship muscle cars and were totally different drivetrain wise but both cars are great. I really don't get the whole news cars have to look just like 40 year old cars thing.
