Purchased GN, 36K original miles, finally after 2 years on this board. I know all about modular mustangs but need some help with reading a scanmaster and tuning. I have 60mm turbo, 50 lbs inj., alkey injection, bored .41 over, mild ported stock heads, 62mm TB, 3" DP and exhaust with ext wastegate. Here are my readings at idle

O2 - 492 - 515
Af - 05
LV8 - 39-40
INT - 128
BLM - 150
ATS - 102
RPM - 725 - 775
TPS - .44
IAC - 55
CC - 113
MAL - 13

Any other information I need to give? Malfunction code is slow responding 02 sensor, where is this sensor? Idle seems a bit rough. Cam has 10/10 grind. How do I get the maximum performance out of this car. thanks for your help.

O2 sensor located just before exhaust enters turbo. Stock ones will typically have a single wire coming from it to a plug/ connector burried possibly somewhere near cam sensor (loc dr side in front of & below fuel press reg'r).

Your O2 readings are abnormally low & you should replace this sensor as a first priority. Denso=better than Bosch, but several more $$...

Good Luck!

Hey Tony, it should be the only sensor in the passenger side exhaust manifold. I think I have a couple spares if you just want to test it out, let me know. Of course the Buick could just be upset with what is sitting next to it!!!!:D

I've been informed by a well respected member of this board, that your best 02 sensors will be an AC Delco with the purple wire. Go with an AFS20.

Just passing along some good info.

Congratulations on your new car. Read here, it may help ya' find out a little about your new car. Go down to post 6. Then to the new buick owners write up.

Hey Tim, I may just take you up on that. How much is a new one anyways?

I think the 02 readings are fine at idle but I was told they should not be below 760 at WOT...and they are. Would this be due to the bad sensor?

I also have a 2007 Dodge Charger so I have one of each to keep all happy.
Of course the GN is my favorite and it is the fastest.

For tuning you should check the thread about the wideband O2, well worth the investment, but a GM one with purple wire can be bought for around $50
put that in and recheck your numbers @ idle then repost

No... it would be due to your car running lean. If you run it too hard too lean, you greatly risk a crash course in headgasket repair or worse. 760 isn't a hard number.... it's different for every car, but it's in the neighborhood. How low are they? Less than like 720 is definitely a concern. Being a new owner, I would STRONGLY advise you to watch closely for knock retard on your scanmaster, and if you see any significant amount (more than a degree or two), jump out of the gas immediately, and determine the cause. These cars will NOT tolerate detonation. Lots of new owners find out real fast.... the hard way. You need to read, read, read.... here:

Read all you can, spring cleaning, quick ref's, sensors, etc., and then read some more.... :)
Just lookin' out!! :) and welcome to hell.....

Thanks for the website. I looked at the O2 sensor and it looks new. I have not taken it out but I will tonight to see if it looks damaged. My O2 volts on scanmaster don't get above 550. My knock sensor stays green so I assume the car is not knocking.

I doubt you can "observe" anything regarding a typically damaged sensor, and

You can assume you have no knock if you know you have a good knock sensor. Do you get any "knock lights" on startup, or is yours connected otherwise?

Yes, I get "knock lights" on startup and then it settles to just the green light at the bottom of the gauge.

That should be good-to-go then. I get anywhere from one green to 1 red light on startup, pending temperature, phase of moon etc. :D

OK. Thanks. So, I need to change my O2 sensor and hopefully my 02 readings will get to the normal level of 760 to 820. I have been driving the car with no issues so I don't believe I have a lean problem. I have never seen anything other than 0 on "knock retard" on the scanmaster.

Do you have a good boost gauge? & what's max boost you've run so far?--& corresponding O2 reading @ WOT?

You definitely need to establish good O2 Scanmaster readings--starting with a new O2 sensor. My own personal order of preference (non-heated) would be Denso, AC, Bosch. The Denso will typically be priced between the $20'ish Bosch & $50'ish AC.

[Kewl--I just noticed this will be my 500th post here...;)--therefore will also include "ceremonial" signature" ]

I have a GNX style dash with VDO gauges that has the boost gauge included. Boost has been up to 26 lbs. (I know probably too high). Currently is aroung 18 lbs. I don't recall what the reading was on SM. What is the difference with heated vs. non-heated?

Removed Sensor - found NTK 4-wire sensor!!!?

I removed my O2 sensor tonight and found NTK 4-wire. I looked it up and it is for a Jeep. This has to be the problem.
