new shift kit in non BRF tranny

I want to put a shift kit in my stock 84 GN tranny. The tranny shifts good and has no slippage and feels healthy. Can this be done with the tranny still in the car? I'm not a tranny guy and nothing more than a weekend mechanic so can anyone give me a step by step on how to install this or is it strictly a tranny shop job? I haven't bought one yet so let me know what is a good kit to use.

Yes it can be done with it in the car and its not a novice job. Not expert either but you hav to have some decent mechanical/follow directions/how things work aptitude.
I Like CPT/Real Art Carr High Tech VB Kit comes with good instructionsand works well lil older tech but works.
Not a fan of CK just my 2 cents.

I use to install Transgo shift kits in Chev 350 transmissions years ago...with great success. Follow the instructions TO THE LETTER and keep everything VERY clean.

More people on this forum and everywhere else are using the CK kit with excellent results.It includes tunable shift accumulator circuits,a new custom designed seperator plate,and a pressure regulator system.The instructions have been updated and include very good information .The kit installs in the car and can be done by a weekend mechanic if he excercises patience and caution.We offer phone help as well as have a 200 book on the trans if you want to really get involved with the job.There isnt a better kit out there.There isnt a kit that includes a new custom seperator plate.This plate is very important to the proper function of the transmission.Here is a link www.CKPerformance.com also you have an 84 trans so you dont have the larger servo.I can give you an excellent deal on a shift kit and servo.

Great Chris. PM me with a price for the kit with the servo and DETAILED instructions. I've swapped engines and tranny's before as well as a hundred other project but I've never been into a trans before.
