Help me out guys, I'm looking to buy a Turbo Regal, I know there are GN"S, GNX's & T-types, but when people say WE4's & WE2's what do they mean. Obviously they are Turbo Regals. Were there different options on those cars, is there are difference in the drivetrain. Sorry if I'm sounding a little stupid but I just want to learn more about them. Thanks ahead for any info.

WE 2 is the code for grand national package(on buildsheets
& such)
WE 4 is a turbo t, but i think not all turbo t's, just a limited run in 87, all black, no hood ornament, etc. i could be wrong on this, i defer to the experts here

We-4 was the option code for the all black Turbo T's that were made in 1987.The WE-4 option was only available in 1987. They are the same as the Grand National, but have a totally gray interior, have T emblems, have aluminum bumper supports & some had aluminum brake drums. They also had aluminum mag wheels which were the same wheels that came on all the T-Types in 1986 & Turbo-T's in 1987. They only made 1,547 WE-4's & I have one of them.:D

The Darkside:cool:

so basically a we4 is an all black turbo-t and nothing else? the turbo-t's which aren't black are not called we4's? that where i got confused...i have one of the 20,193 we2 grand nationals though:D :D :D

then throw in the LIMITED

column shifted, pillow seat, grandpa lookin car :)

chrome trim or black out trim....... mmmmm limiteds are the best looking cars cause they are so comfy :D

hmmm. My 86 astroroof came w/aluminum brake drums. I wonder how many astro roofs were made in 86. I always thought that all of these came w/ aluminum drums but I am fairly new to these cars also. I always wondered what we2 and we4 was too. but didn't want to look too stupid.

WE2 is the RPO for the Grand National, plain and simple.

WE4 is the RPO for an all black Turbo T.

All Turbo Ts (Base Regals and Limiteds) have aluminum bumper supports and aluminum wheels.

All GNs have steel bumper supports and steel wheels.

Non-posi Turbo Ts and GNs have aluminum brake drums.

All GNXs - who cares - LOL.

The above applies to 1987. Other years may vary.

So far from my limited theory, there seems to be less than 10 percent of the 5512 we2 units received the astroroof. Yes I have one also. I love it. Is yours a silver astroroof?

Also, the WE4 does not have rear (trunk) spoiler which comes stock on GN's.

As noted in other posts, WE4 had ligher weight parts, otherwise engine and trans are same as in GN's.

the we4 was also quicker then the gn maybe a tenth or 2 because it was lighter aluminum wheels and bumper supports and much rarer only 1547 produced car and driver reported the we4 was the fastest car 0-60 it had ever tested the gnx is the only turbo buick faster in stock form

Thanks for all the info guys, You've been a great help. If any of you guys need any F-body questions answered, I'm your man!! Can't wait till I purchase one of these awesome machines. Is there anything i should look for particularly when buying a turbo regal?

The WE4 also had black painted bumpers similar to the GN. Other turbo T's had chrome bumpers. Wording in brochures of the time suggests that the WE4 was a low weight alternative to the GN to meet some kind of EPA production weight restriction.
