thinking about getting one of these off a board member, just curious if it was "upgradable" in the future. I know some of the turbos you can rebuild them with more up-to-date internals so i figured ide ask.

i prolly sound like a jackass right now, i just couldnt figure ot how to word the question

No problem.
The TE-60 can be upgraded to a PT6131. Both are based on T3/T4 series cartridges and use the T31 Stage 3 turbine wheel. The 3 components that would change would be the compressor wheel, backing plate and compressor cover. The rest should remain the same. The beauty of the 6131 is that it uses the compressor wheel that is used in the GT3582R, which makes for a very nice upgrade.

so would the cost justify the upgrade? or would i just be better off selling the te60 when i want to upgrade?

I read in another post that you could probably only gain about 20hp by upgrading the turbo....

I think a TA-49, TE-44 or GT3255 would be better choices with your combo. & leave the stock converter in the car.

im getting a complete rebuild on the tranny before summer and i want to get the converter in at the same time to avoid doing it twice, which is why im trying to size the turbo right now. I just got the car, which is why i only have these mods, i havent begun to buy the ones i have planned yet:smile:

How much boost are you running now with the stock turbo & the alky? What are your desired times for the car?

running 22psi with the alky turned down and not a blip of knock. My desired times will be mid 10's, but that wont be for a couple seasons.

This season i would just like to dip into the 11's, which is why i picked up a used turbo for now until i buy a BB, and i just wanted to match up a good converter that can do the trick.

Any advice is appreciated :)

That 60 is more the enough to take you into the 10's... if people are running 11.50's on a TE44 unopened motor...., a 60 can do it.

that is good to know:D although i will prolly end up buying a BB before i get that far...... i may just hold off for awhile now

also i forgot to ask, how many psi could i safely run on the te60 with 36# injectors + alky? I have a hotwire and pump also

Just trying to be safe, i will have 60#ers soon enough, but i want to be able to run it for now.

I would think 25lbs no problem. I would keep the 60 for now then sell it and upgrade when you upgrade the rest of the combo. A 60 on a stock motor is good for mid 11s. A 60 is not much bigger than a 49/44. I thought the only difference was the exahust side. I am not 100% sure on that though.

IMHO... this is likely not going to happen on a full weight street car. I have been following the 60 size turbos for several years here on the boards.... and I remember one guy that went 10.80's with a 60....... 99% stay in the low to mid 11's.

With that said.... if your goal is mid 10's you need more turbo and complementing parts.....

IMHO a TE45A is a solid 10 second (non bb) turbo with the right parts and tuning on a full weight street capable car.
