i swapped out my motor for a spare one i had for a project.
its got spark and fuel, everything is hooked up but does not catch on the start..in other words it plutters and shuts off.
this motor has the same injectors as the other so using same TT chip
tried unplugging the maf, changing out the iac but cars should start.
pump primes each time, fuel pressure is approx 40.
please help with some other suggestions.....motor has been sitting for 3 years and did hear it run before buying it.
i had also soaked the cylinders with wd40 and oil for a few days before putting the motor in. i've turned it over enough times that it shouldn't be soaking the plugs.

Hi,
I agree, you need the cam sensor set properly before it will start. Also,you might pull the plugs and verify they aren't fouled. GNTTYPE.org has the procedure for the cam sensor. It's posted here somewhere, too. Keep us informed, and good luck with your starting issue!

what causes the cam sensor to go out? ..it hasn't been touched.
I do have the cam sensor tool with the led....do i have to go through the whole procedure or can the tool make it easier to verify alignment?
...i'm gonna pull the plugs for the 10th time and try another chip and then cam sensor as the last thing before i set it on fire:mad:
well maybe i'll pull all the injectors and swap them out but still it should start for longer than a couple of farts.

If those injectors were not used for 3 years, they may not be working? :confused:

Since it sounds like you have spark, spray some pats cleaner or carb cleaner into a vac line on top of the throttle body while trying to start and see if it runs.

If it runs, then change the injectors.

Check the cam sensor. Also make sure it's not 180 degrees out.

I did this once. Finished putting heads cam, timing chain in and it was very late when I put the cam sensor in and I put the cap on 180' out. Car ran fine and started great when cold put was hard to start when warm.

.

be sure to check ALL the connections. sounds simple but believe me it can drive you up a wall.

update;
tried throttle body cleaner into top, and did nothing
cleaned plugs again and nothing, just plutters for a bit
* setting cam sensor with the led tool and the led does not come on?:confused: ...i've followed the directions to a t....when going tdc the cam sensor window as at about the 2 O clock instead of abit past 3 per instructions.
i rotate the cup 1/4 to half turn and back and see no light? HELP:confused:

* i still have the computer wire and battery wire connected when doing this so don't know what's next.

update;
ok so i did the old school way, never mind the led tool.
used a voltmeter with the key on...its funny how you see 0 Volts for only a moment before the multimeter jumps to double digits..anyway it did the trick, got the engine to fire up. had to throttle it like crazy to keep it running. tps voltage would not respond. swapped that out and now both of my good MAF's are done:mad:....but she runs now ...now need a new MAF ...got a Ls1 on the shelf but have no idea how the plug wires go...oh well on to getting that figured out.
