A few weeks ago I installed a converter and a transgo kit. Got it all back together and was happy. Noticed a slight bit of noise while in gear and it went away after some driving after the car warmed up. Took it out a few days ago accross town and noticed the noise again, but got quieter after the car got warmed up, still noticed it once in a while though. Seems like its really bad when cold and mostly goes away after the trans is warm. Kinda like a sanding sound, only in gear. No problems with lock up, shifts fine, drives fine. I used plain old dextron in it. Pretty sure this isn't normal.

I had this exact same issues with my old converter. Sounds like you have a stator/bearing issues in the converter, hence why it only happens in gear. I bet it goes away when the converter is locked. I replaced my converter and no more issues.

Started the car up today to move it out of the garage. Put it in gear and no noise. Took it for a drive around the neighborhood and all that came out of it was a little rattle, sounds like a heat shield rattle but I know it's not. Stopped in front of my neighbors house and ran through the gears and even power braked it and forward and reverse, no noise. Take off about 1/3 throttle and starts to make the rattling noise around 2k. Before I take the trans out is there anything I should look at to see what could be causing this noise? Seems like the noise just comes and goes whenever. No scraping noises today like it was yesterday when I backed it out of the garage.

Don't know if this matters but I didn't put name brand fluid in, just off brand advance stuff.

You positive the converter bolts are tight? Might check them for length too...

short and shriveled, just like getting out of a pool.

Yeah I was kinda wondering if the bolts are bottoming out. Might crawl under there tonight or tomorrow and check into it. It's possible.

Remove the under pan and try it again. The converter does move slightly and if the pan is bent it will rub.

I had a simular issue awhile back..... couldnt figure out what the hell it was.

turns out i had lost a bell housing pin. and at cetain rpm and load it would make a vibrating rubbing sound.
