no I'm serious!!! I had to call a friend of mine that liver there & give her hell about it. she said she didn't doubt it.

I live in Randolph county and have worked in Greensboro for many years.
It's a good place to live and work in although most people live in either randolph davidson or forsyth counties because of the lower taxes. Greensboro's standard of living is close to Raleigh but less than Charlotte.
We have a coliseum and several parks/battlefields if you like that sort of thing. Night life is much slower than other large cities. Drag racing wise piedmont 1/8th is about 15 miles north of GSO.

What kind of work are you looking for?
Do you have school age children?

Greenboro is not a bad area. Be careful and do not get any engine work done by anyone that lives there no matter how many people tell you he's the greatest guy ever.

Housing is cheap. The ACC b-ball tourney is there every year. They also get quite a few of the 1st & 2nd round NCAA games. 3 hours to the beach. 3 hours to the mtns. Golf all year long. Sweet Tea every where you go. What more could you ask for.

thanks for the info...Yes I do have a 1yr old boy.so schools will be important in the near future, wife also will go back to teaching in a few yrs.
I do HVAC controls(DDC) so have some resumes out there.I am going to look at a house Tommorow(Sat),so anything I need to know to check out while there for a few hours would be great..

Guilford county has some problems with the school system, overcrowding messed up bussing issues. If your wife is a teacher she might have to take the praxxis in NC to be certified again. Work in HVAC should be no problem in the area and I would assume you could get a well paying job in a week or two. You have your pick of either commerical or residential and we are still in a housing boom. New construction for homes in Guilford co is at an all time high (say's the local news channel.

If you like golf their are at least 20 in the area.

Nc

Dennis, I live in Randolph County now and in NC all my life. Guildford County was where I grew up. Stay away from Greensboro City and Guilford county taxes and most important, the messed up school board. They have been in some very heated debates over the school system from the parents. I have a two year old and Randolph or Davidson are good schools to attend. My sister lives 10 min from me and teaches in Davidson county. She moved from Guilford to Davidson County just for the schools and most important her kids. I have been everywhere in the country and like NC best. Small town people. Nascar's home base, NFL football, Golf all year and very little snow if any at all. Avgerage temps in the winter 50 for the highs. Need a house? I have a 5 bedroom 2 bath two story home that I am going to sell with no broker involved. reason for selling is that I need more land for a private air strip. It is 30min from PTI airport and about 15 min from the edge of Greensboro and 20 min from Winston Salem. Very good location and the price is cheap compaired to your home state. (Email me direct on the house) I am going out of town this Sunday-Friday. I need that SMC kit !!! BarnesGN hit all the good points. Houses and buildings are going up everywhere. Dont forget Hockey and the cup!!! 1 1/2 hours away in RDU. Still dont seem right. A "southern state" wins the cup

Wow you guys are really scaring me now,,,my wife is real big on the school thing since she teaches,I think the taxes on the house are $2800 a yr,does that seem high for a house that has an asking price of $250K,sh1t I pay 6K in taxes here.....the house is on 2 acres of land which to me is a ton of land, back to the school thing ,IF I was to live in Guilford and we send our boy to a davidson school,

Not all the good points, he forgot to mention that we have a real good Carolina Turbo V6 group for Buicks (and a certain Buick powered Malibu) and Syclone/Typhoons. We have meets somewhere just about every month. Randolph County is way cheaper in tax rates, Guilford County stinks for taxes , schools, and traffic. I'm 30 min from either Greensboro or Winston-Salem, just at an hour to Charlotte or Raleigh. In all it's a great area to live in. I saw the news stuff about HIV, that's mostly due to drug use and shared needles.
