Just to reply to the Norwalk info, we (White Racing) ran 7.95 and 7.98 at Milan the night before at 177 MPH with Chris White driving. That was good enough to win the 10" GM High Tech Shootout and #1 Qualifier. We are told that it is the first Buick V6 power 10 inch tire car to run in the 7's. This car belongs to Jerry Kupinski which he purchased from Ray Royer after the fire in Salem Ohio.

At Norwalk we were plauged by a faulty cam sensor that we didn't find until after the race was over (naturally). It caused lots of mess'ed up passes Sunday at Norwalk. Red Armstrong was kind enough to help out after we had changed about all of the parts except the motor. Red modifies the cam sensor to operate at 8000 RPM plus in case anyone else is having the same problem.

We'll get some pictures of the 7-second runs on the website over the weekend and some of the wild explosions and crashes at the GM High Tech race.

Wow,

This is great and it gives me hope for my junk!
Could you please give me a run down of this cars combination?
Also how is your car coming along?

Congrats!

That is awesome, however, as far as I know Richie Kibler was the first Buick V6 10.5" tire car to run 7's (he ran 7.9x @173mph with a single PT88 on 10.5 X 29.5 non "W" tires)....

As John said please post some details on the car because that is truly an impressive accomplishment!:)

Combo

The car is Rays old car that was re-built after the fire. We built a 268 Stage II with an expermintal cam for it. We stuck on our Limit Eng turbos and Coan Powerglide and converter.

Dale Schiffer from the Fab Shop ran with us on Friday nite when we ran the 7.95 176 but his Flaiming Rivers Steering Box exploded after a wheel stand in the right lane at 400 feet out and put the car ito the wall. Dale runs the "10-Inch Racing " Program and was fortunately not injured in the crash. Dale raced with us as the chassis tuner for Saturday and Sunday and his help was more than appreciated.

Dale had loaned Jerry some shocks to prevent the suspension from hitting too hard which put the car into the 1.23 to 1.25 60' range consistant. Changing the springs and rear gear would help another .3 ET but they were not available since we were 4-days on the road at various races.

The car weighs 3455 lbs with driver and has a 4-link in it. We got the rear of the car as low as possible to eliminate the lift we were getting at 170 MPH with the rear section higher.

We are converting the car to the new BigStuff as soon as we repair the ATR waste gates. They are "mushrooming" the valves about every 5-6 passes. If anyone knows a fix for this, we would like to know. We are an ATR dealer and don't want to pull the valves off of the motor.

Since the cam sensor was causing an engine miss at 8050 RPM we had to short shift the engine and that hurt the ET. The engine likes to shift at 8600 but we were not able to do that all weekend because of the sensor.

All in all it was a learning adventure and a LONG 4-days racing. It was nice to set the 10-Inch 7-Second record with a V6.

How much ballast do you guys have on the car and is the car all steel. The reason I am asking is because my car is all steel but bumpers, with a/c and moonroof, pw, pl, and weighs 3490 stock rear suspension been thinking of using some ballast.

Tony,

I would like to know what turbo you are going to run this year?
=)

Weight

There was no added weight in the car. It is all steel except for the hood, deck and bumpers. It has a larger fuel cell so that adds about an extra 30 lbs in the rear.
