Ok, I've emailed and called very fastener supplier in the country looking for stainless steel metric stover nuts. 3 out of 20 had them, but either wanted 10 bucks to ship, or had a 25 or higher minimum. Where in the bloody hell do you get metric stainless stover nuts at around here??

I'm not sure what a stover nut is? My favorite place for most fasteners is True Value Hardware. They have a amazing variety. Chrome, stainless, etc. etc.

Where are you located, how many, and what size do you want? Fastenal lists them in A2 stainless (DIN 980), www.fastenal.com, see if they have a store near you. The wholesale supplier we buy from at work has them listed, but then there's that whole minimum order or shipping cost thing again :-).

If you have a dull chisel or a blunt center punch with a hammer, you can make your own. I've done it quite a few times on my BBC boat engine when I ws in a hurry to get to the lake.

Just curious though, what are you trying to clamp down? The turbo to header connection?

Turbo mounting studs. They are the original style nuts that came on the car. I just wanted stainless to prevent all the rust. Fastenal doesn't carry them normally, so because of that they think it's good business practice to want the customer to pay for shipping. No. Sorry, stocked item or not YOU the company pays shipping, not the customer. So fastenal, you can go outside and play hide and go **** yourself on that one. Just lost future business with me too cuz of that shit. All of that business lost for 7 bucks shipping? Doesn't seem as if their CFO has a good grip on reality. Pay shipping now, and get my business for LOTS of future purchases, orrr hope the customer will absorb the shipping. Bad gamble in my eyes.
Will try tractor supply. Need 3 stainless steel M10-1.50 stover nuts. Not paying over 2 dollars a piece out the door. Every place I've been to yet it would have ended up to be around 8 bucks a nut. This was out of 8 places thus far. :(

if tractor supply has it you'll pretty much be paying weight. My store here has a good selection but there's no way they have stover nuts in stock. ESP in metric.

I know what you mean about fastener debacles. Back in my superbike and GP days I had a bad habit of buying bikes with the bodywork off of them. It took longer to get all the brackets and stuff right then it did to go threw the chassis and engine.

That's why I made all those SS socket head cap kits for my build. Since I had to buy in major bulk to keep from getting hosed (and I weaseled out of shipping the first couple passes), I pretty much have a lifetime supply of fasteners and all kinds of goodies. It also helps when I call major supply houses and say 'This is Earl Brown, I'm working on a personal project... How are you doing today?......" and they think they're talking to my father, the GM of parts for a large manufacturing facility :D

People don't realize what a PIA chasing specific fasteners can be.

I made a 'SS turbo instal kit' a while back and never mentioned it. Let me take a look at what I have when hottub time is over and the blonds leave. :)
I might be able to help you out.

Turbo6Smackdown, if you still want/need these send me an email at the address in my sig. I can get them from our wholesaler, but I have to buy 100 of them, and then shipping on to you unless you are in the Maryland area and we could just meet up. We never use them here so I couldn't talk my boss into putting 97 on the shelf in stock :-), but I'll split the 100 with you at least partially if you are interested. Anyway, send me an email and we can decide what to do, if anything.

That sounds awesome but I wouldn't feel right. I feel guilty having someone do that lol. I REALLY appreciate the offer though. Maybe we could sell them on here. They are the factory turbo attaching nuts used on our cars. But they don't rust :) Whaddya think?

Did you check Metric Screw and Tool in Boston? Julie F there has helped me many times over the years. Problem is if we sell them 3 or 6 at a shot then how can we ship cheaply enough to keep the total reasonable? Actually, 3 in an envelope could probably go first class mail for what, $0.91 in stamps for 2 ounces these days, plus the envelope? I was hoping either you or Earl was the entrepreneur type, since I'm not, sigh :-). I'll make a stab at the weight tomorrow and see what postage will be. Would you pay $3 total for 3, guessing at postage and envelope?

Find out what store they are shipping them from. Maybe a member lives nearby and would be willing to buy them and drop them in an envelope to you for a paypal gift + a buck.

Fastenal tried to get me to pay $7 for $8 worth of bolts and I just couldn't talk myself into it so I bought from another source locally for $3 total. Glad I shopped around. But when they have the stuff I do like buying from them.

Just caught this thread....

I deal with a Fastenal place near me...explain to me with a photo or email to me what it is and spec the size may be something we want to offer....again keep in my ind my mechanical skills are limited so I need to know with a photo and specs be surprised we still make bolt kits up for GTO companies for the old GTOs....you would think they would make their own bolt kits and sell them in kit form...

Yea, I'd pay that, sure. :)

I got new metric studs and nuts at a local Foreign Auto Part's store. Common part for them. Wasn't stainless steel but that's not really needed anyway.

That's the real trick on small orders like that. When shipping and effort is 2 or 3 times what the actual product costs, it looks like you're trying to rape people.
You have to charge enough to cover the nuts, shipping to get them in the first place, the envelope, and the postage. For first class, you can't do that at USPS.com, they only do priority and up. So now the cheapest is a small flat rate box at $5.85. So to save the end user a couple buck on postage you have to physically drive to a post office (and tracking cost extra on 1st class). In my case it's a 22 mile round trip, I get 17mpg in town and gas is almost $4/gallon.... Even overheading a big stash and selling at cost the stage is set for some people to think you're an asshole trying to price gouge for "three simple little nuts" in this example.
There's not a doubt in my mind I could get them at a good price, but I have a feeling I'd be buried with them.

I can't tell you how much money I've paid out when people get a turbo bell bolt kit from me and two bolts and two washers go into a flat rate box. But it's still cheaper than driving to the PO.

One thing to note - stainless steel is bad about galling and seizing, especially in a hot location like this, so make sure you put a dab of grease or antiseize on the threads before you tighten them up or you will get to try to unscrew a stud with the galled nut, hoping the stud doesn't break off.

I ordered 100 today as part of an order for work to cut the shipping as much as possible, along with 100 M8x30 316 SS socket head cap screws to bolt TH-style downpipes to the turbo outlet (my boss is very understanding about stuff like this). I like to keep some of the M8x30's in my truck when I go to a track in case someone needs one. Should be here in a few days but I'm staying out of the office all next week and calling it a vacation so I can't say when I will actually have them in hand. I'll post then and we can work out details. I go within a block of the post office on my drive to/from work, so at least that's not a problem. Anyway, will post when I have more info.

Sweet. Maybe we can get them all sold on here. So noone's out anything. I have the stainless studs, now all I need is the stainless nuts :) We'll have to work out a fair price on here.

Well, I'm back and have the M10 stover nuts in A2 (304) stainless and M8x30 socket head cap screws in A4 (316) stainless steel in hand. The screws hold a TH style downpipe to the turbo exhaust housing, and the 316 stands up to heat better than 304. Washers in A2 are easy to find so I didn't bother to get any of those. Anyone who is interested in getting some of these, please send me an email at the address in my .sig (yes, delete the XX's) with the subject line Turbo Nuts and I will reply with all the info. I'm not a vendor here so this will be my only posting on this. All communication must be by email (and I usually only check it at night so have a little patience, please).
