What pump gas octane is recommended to use with the alchy kit? Thanks in advance

Depends on what you are using the car for. Alky can be used on any octane. If you are running alky on a kill tune, one little Michal and there goes headgasket or worse block damage. From what ive seen here, some pretty fast cars run 93/alky.

Sent from my iPhone using Turbo Buick

We have 91 and 94 octane but they have up to 10% ethynol in them. We also have 92 with no ethynol. Thanks

I run 87 octane with alchy and 30psi of boost.

I don't get running gas that contains alcohol if it's also being sprayed. Gas has more energy (more power) than alcohol so I want more gas going into the engine then I spray the alchy to add octane. No issues.

What does it run with 87 and 30psi of boost? How much timing?

Its the superman with a vest analogy.. running 93 octane over 87 gives some a sense of extra protection and technically reduces the amount needed to stop the knock from happening. Ie meth dependance.

Me.. gas is cheap enough in the grand scheme of things and running premium is no biggie. If running premium by a slight miracle offsets an "issue", the extra paid for it outweighs anything else.

So run the highest octane gas you can buy reasonably and use the alky kit to stop the detonation. I have some high powered cars on 87 octane.. but like the LIFE commercial.. I aint gonna try it :D

Thanks Julio and I will run premium.;) The thing that concerns me is the 91 and 94 octane up here has up to 10% ethynol and we have a 92 octane from a different supplier that is 92 but no ethynol. Thanks again

I run the 93 with the 10% ethanol
I run 93/alky combo at the track but since 93 carries a $1+ premium per gallon here, I buy 91 from a particular station that seems to have a little better, more consistent gas and I drop the timing 2 degrees with 19-20 lbs of boost. I really can't tell much diference in performance.

We spend so much time and money on these cars and then we have a discussion on buying 87 octane because its cheaper?

LMAO

87 is more expensive than 91 here.. go figure...
The good side is that I get better milage in my truck with it.. 12mpg with 91 and 19mpg with 87...

I'm surprised the difference would the that much

I drove my truck around for 5 years getting crappy milage and the ONE time I tried 87 the milage jumped big time. I tried another tank, then another, etc and the milage stayed up. I even notice my lawn mower running better with it. I told all my friends and they switched with similar results.
It makes sense too. Despite what people may think alcohol does not have the same energy that gas has so that 10% of alcohol is losing power. Yes, it has more octane (octane is not power) but if you don't need the octane then don't use it.

interesting. I've actually thought about switching to 87 since that's the only fuel around here that doesn't have ethanol.

This thread might need to get moved to tue lounge. The claims need to be backed with proof in a controlled test. The tech has to prove that mileage is effected as much as stated or it's just more internet spooge. Going from ethanol to non ethanol might increase fuel economy by a few % but thats about it based on btu's per lb. Its not going to add a measurable amount of mileage from one tank to the next. It would take several tanks and the driving would need to be same. Driving technique can cause much higher swings in mileage than ethanol %. Ive seen zero measurable difference in my daily drivers running 93 octane or 87 octane. Both are oxygenated with ethanol up to 10% although the exact % of ethanol is unknown.
