Folks,
What is the allowable clearance between the side (teeth) of the oil pump gears and the aluminum housing? Also, what's the best way to measure it? I do not mean the end clearance, which I found by searching the archives.
I've been digging through the timing cover pile at the bone yard looking for a good one.
Thanks,
Brett

oil pump side clearance

I just rebuilt my oil pump with a sealed power kit,and in the kit it gives a feeler gauge of .003 to use to ck the side clearance--hope that helps----Jack

Jack,
That's what I was looking for. Much more accurate than my eyeball.
Thanks,
Brett

oil pump clearances -----

Brett---Be sure to look for srapes in the "bottom" of the pump ,where the pump gears ride, thats where mine had problems, most have problems on the "top" ,where the pump gears ride---look for .002 clearance here-----Jack

How can you have any control over the gear side clearance? The gears slide into the front cover and have no adjustment. If you don't have enough clearance, what do you have to do? Grind the teeth down?
