Guy's,

I was playing around tuning my latest project Turbo T and I had to laugh at my "old school tuning" approach. I included a pic of my high tech scan tool. Notice the buttons are worn out from years of use.:D and my state of the art computer (circa 1990) which I burn my chips on. It's equipped with a 5 1/4" floppy drive and runs windows 3.1. ;) There is a button on the front labeled "Turbo" I have no idea what it does but that one is pressed in for good measure.

Here's the pics

Enjoy!

I have one just like that!

(OTC 2000)

does that make me old too ?

did you find the code for the ck eng light?

Lee,

It was actually a brake system warning light but you can't tell with the aftermarket GNX dash. When one light comes on you can't tell what it is. I found the rear brakes out of adjustment. After I tightened the up a bit and drove the car the light went out. There may still be an issue but it seems OK for now.

AHH the infamous OTC 2000, went a many 7.36 @ 95 1/8 passes with that tuning method. and then came the Direct Scan, & that is still in the cabinet in the shop. anyone want to buy it? LOL

after rereading the post & looking @ my sig, it took about 10 years & a $hitload of $ to take off 2 seconds & add 33mph.

hello; Good luck with your tuning and keep posting as you go. But just because it's old and you don't have the latest and greatest you'll still get the job done. I have a OTC 4000 and recently got a scanmaster but it just does the same thing but not as clumsy.
have fun

HAHAHA, I still have my 2000 scanner! That was the top dog when it first came out, space age sh*t right there...

An OTC scanning a 1/8 mile pass!? Good grief, what did you get for data...like 3 frames??

Some very fast cars we tuned with and OTC back in the day. You work with what you have

As did I!! I still have my OTC 4000E packed away somewhere.

Mike,

You're right. One of these days I'll probably pony up the money for a Power logger and a chip from either Eric Marshal or Bob Bailey but it's amazing how well the old technology still works. It requires a bit more intuition, some would call it guess work but back when you couldn't buy a wideband 02 sensor this was the only game in town. Without making myself sound like a dinosaur I can still jet a carb, re-curve a distributor and read spark plugs too.

An OTC2000 is space age compared to reading spark plugs with a magnifying glass, flowing nitrous with a bathroom scale while using a PR-100 pressure Carb. on a 2,240 Cid Rolls Griffon. We would go through 150 lbs of nitrous, 65 gallons of 115/145 fuel, and 25 gallons of water methonal in about five minutes. Get the tune up wrong and you saw a block in half and you can't buy any parts from anywhere. Custom built or WWII surplus. Now we got data loggers and tuning with a laptops. Man.......ain't technology GREAT!!! Look up how to tune a pressure Carb. It'll blow your mind how complex those things are. Amazing Carb that adjusts for air density changes. Only a handful of guys can even rebuild em these days. I, too still have my old trusty OTC2000. I don't have my old pentium90 anymore though. My dang phone is more powerful than that.

True Mr turbofabricator. Funny how people were really scared of fuel injection when it first became popular, and most of the newer generation of mechanics can't do anything with a carbureted car, let alone something with points!

it was not much data, but we NEVER blew a head gasket using the OTC & running 30+ psi. how many can say that.;)

I don't care how much technology you have, reading pugs is the ONLY true way of reading what is going on.
