I was at Cotton's Performance yesterday and there was a customer's car there which had just been painted semi-flat black. Although the mouldings and emblems hadn't been put on yet, I think it definitely looked badass!
Right now, my own car's paint is starting to show it's age and I was planning to have it repainted probably next year and after seeing that satin black car, I'm seriously considering going that route.
Are there some members here who have done it?...and if possible, can you please post a few pictures?

Thanks,

Claude. :)

There are people who are regularly painting their cars with Plastikote handle dip. Youtube some videos on it. You can actually peel it off if you don't like it. Worth a look. I think it's fairly cheap to do and you can do it at home for sure.

Looks cool, hard to maintain though. It doesn't like any type of oily substances (even skin oil) to get on it, you can't wax it, etc.

The plastidip stuff is pretty cool, I have a buddy that did his hood and some stripes on a Jetta.

Personally, I think the fad has already run it's course and is already losing its "new and different" appeal.

Its called Plasti dip and i did my grill on my lifted truck last year. I wish i could post a pic, but i have since sold the truck and got another phone.
Anyways plasi dip look like shit, and is very temporary. I would only use it parts that need blacked out per preference.

On the other hand there are members here with satin black paint "looks killer" one of which cars I've seen in other places on the internet.
Google search images being one. I have put a lot of thought into this my self, but there is nothing like that deep gloss black shiny paint you can brush your teeth in.

I dig it. Was considering some sort of two-tone myself.

''Turbo Negro'', your car looks great!!...The only thing I'd do would be to add the wheel opening mouldings and ''Grand National'' emblems on it so people don't think it's an ''unfinished'' project or worse, a primered car. Other than that, it looks mean!!

Claude. ;)

That's what I was going to do with mine same wheels and all lol. I do paint repair I have checked and my supplier and they have a Simi gloss clear that is what I am looking into and try to test some to see how well it works and if its the right look.

I've heard you can add sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) to any paint or clear, and it will produce a semi gloss finish.

Or relieve an upset tummy......just buy semi gloss paint. Or satin.

True but don't know if it will last

I can tell you that I painted the hood of my SRT Charger a satin black and it did not hold up well at all, very easily scratched since you can't wax it and it was only a single stage paint without a clear coat. I since wrapped it in 3M satin black vinyl and it is infinitely better. I think you can probably wrap a whole GN for about 1/2 the cost of painting it.

The car looks sweet!

When that 3m VINYL film starts to show the stretch marks the installer gave you, or begins to chicker from the sun, look into some Suntek matte PPV film, you won't be disappointed.

I'm not really interested in wrapping at least not for long term use. To me, it looks more like a ''band-aid'', a temporary kind of solution, but not the real thing. There surely is a semi-flat black paint out there that would do the job right!...

For the for the one stage there is a protect for that that u have to apply every couple of months or so

Here's a question for the painters out there.....

I've decided to go the satin black route on my project. The question is if I get sick of it down the road can I scuff it and shoot it with a regular clear and have it look like a normal gloss black?

I've been told that it's the clear coat that's matte, not the black paint itself and if you ever get tired of it, you can gave the car light sanded and re-cleared again this time with some gloss clear coating…

Check with the manufacture of the paint but if it's an top coat clear still my not stick by just scufing it.
