Ok, I'll do that tonight. There are indicator sets we could squeeze along the bottom. Lots of options.

Thanks terryk once again! I have had this idea in my head since I bougth my car about a month ago. The stock dash just needs refinement. Something that performs as well as these cars definately deserves a better and easier way to monitor things. Hopefully I wont run into too many problems coming up with a simple prototype and I can make this dash come true. Thanks again to everyone who has stated their opinions and who has helped me!

Dimensions

The idiot light pods are 1.75 inches wide by 4.5 inches tall. The space to install guages is 10 inches wide by 5 inches tall. These are approximations but otherwise pretty close.
I don't think there is enough room to put two 3 3/8 guages plus a 2 1/16 on each side and still retain both idiot light pods. (3.375" + 3.375" + 2.0625" + 2.0625" = 10.875" alone. Not counting any space between them or if the guage bezel is a bigger diameter). I think it's only doable by losing one of the pods. Half of the lights don't even apply to us or have any bulbs in there. I think BFH(Buick from hell a.k.a. Kevin) can make an idiot light overlay with anything that you want on it.
HTH, CaptRob

I'm in the process of doing this right now. Pics soon. I just went to the JY and snagged a inst panel from a N/A Regal to cut on.

I think that about covers it. I get:

13-1/2" total outside width including light pods.
5-3/4" total height

For the bucket area (where the speedo sits in)
1-1/16" width for each pod
9-5/8" width of the bucket area
5-1/2" height of bucket area
3-1/4" depth of bucket area.

If we leave one pod side, the only trick will be making the gauge position not look unbalanced (now there's a professional usage of the language)....otherwise use the whole 13-1/2" width and add the indicators in various places on the face. LED's not allowed. The look kludgy. Icons or words only.

How about do as the japs do and have them reflect off the lexan, kinda look ghosted? Mount em below everything in suck a way that they WILL reflect?

Terryk....let me try and redisgn the dash using the dimensions you gave me. So am I safe to assume that the 13.5 is from the absolute left hand to the absolute right(ie from the 1 inch or so to the left of the left hand idiot light and to the 1 inch past the right hand idiot light) if that is the case I will try and redraw my panel with some idiot lights put into the design. Thanks again! Keep i touch!

Interested in a copy of the dxf or dwg of this panel is that possible?? Thanks Brian

Is this maybe a record? Drug up a thread that's almost 11 years old!! :-D
