I will be dropping the tank in the very near future for a new fuel pump.

When I bought the car the tank was "silver"ish and I painted it black.

Since then I have seen pictures of ones painted silver and then clearcoat over that and it looks nice...but isn't black.

So....

Fresh coat of black paint?

Or remove paint and then either clearcoat the metal if it is nice or paint silver?

I like the 'silver' look...just makes the car look cleaner IMO!

So are the holding straps supposed to be silver too? mine are black but that might be from paint....I don't recall.

Can new straps be purchased?

The straps should be a silver/metal color....at least that is how my GNX is and how my 800 mile car was. Keep in mind if the car was undercoated they could have spayed over the gas tank!

They should be, you're right, but I had a black paint can in my hand, LOL.

As did I but I think I want them silver on the black rubber pads if I go back to a silver tank.

I'm replacing my straps once I get everything zipped up, no rush, but when I do that I plan on satin silvering the metal part again. There is a method to my madness though. I just wanted a nice black undercarriage for now, until I decide if I am doing the GNX rear end. My first stage of the build is to get it running great and looking great, once I have it on the road I will do the brakes, suspension, undercarriage and whatever else.

I did the black. But the tank is done in the bed liner coating so it has texture.

Hey Bill! I know what you should do since you are dropping your gas tank...leave it out completely and put in a fuel cell! ;) :D

No don't be stupid like me. Honestly I like the silver/metallic look. I'm going to be putting in a stock gas tank to make it look like I'm stock (yeah right) and will be doing the silver look. Get some stainless straps too. Not the crappy mild steel.

I prefer black. I think it really doesn't look good when there is stuff hanging down underneith the car...

I have the same sway bar and diff cover so I guess that is a pretty good example of what it would look like.

If you don't mind, can you take a picture of the tank with the car on the ground from a short distance behind?

I will be painting mine silver as well. What type of paint do you guys recomend?

If you put a lot of miles on the car the only way it will truly hold up well is with some clear over the paint. Spray can paint lack any kind of real hardner and that's why it scratches off so easy. So any silver you like with some clear on it.

Paint the tank!I think thats one of the best thing I ever did to my car it really makes the back of the car look clean.

Same as mine too. I had already planned to drop the tank this winter and painting it. I like the silver myself and that is the direction I am going. Just makes it look fresh from the factory for some reason.
