How do I check to see what's running in the background on my win7 laptop???

Late Tue it installed some win7 updates on it's self, and starting yesterday, I now see what looks like almost constant harddrive activity (light flickering constantly) so I want to see what's running in the background and stop it, or go back and de-install all those updates that were done Tue.

Right click on the bar at the bottom of the screen. This will pop up a menu then click on 'start task manager'

Thanks, found the culprit. It was a process called "WDBackupEngine.exe" I was able to suspend the process, but now got to figure out why it was doing it. My Western Digital Backup program did update itself Tue.

I think I figured it out. I must have incorrectly disconnected my WD backup drive yesterday. Because I plugged it back in just now, and restarted the WDBackupEngine file so I could start the software. Satified that it was running OK, I made sure that I CORRECTLY powered down and disconnected the drive.

Now my HD light is showing normal activity. Rare, occasional blips.
