I personally say the ecm upgrade is the first step. There are a lot more chip vendors to use then. And I use direct scan on my set up. I also have turbo link and the new version is excellent. The vendor support you receive from Ken Mosher is top of the line. Doesn't really matter just as long as you have one and know how to read the data. Without the proper tuning you're just throwing parts at it and hope it works. Just my two cents... :cool:
 
You need the computer which is in the junkyards in some of the FWD sequential injected cars with a cam sensor (not the fast start type). I'm sure someone on here has a part#. You need a chip burned for the 87 ECM and the only other thing you need is the 87 MAF meter. The early MAFs are calibrated a little difference and read higher at lower flow rates. The car will run rich if you don't swap it. Another option is to get a chip burned for the early MAF and you don't have to swap out but the range is not as great with the early ones so I suggest swapping it.

Some people say you need the MAT sensor. Most aftermarket chips don't use it anyway and even with the stock chip it doesn't affect anything. The worst thing it will do is throw a check engine light if you don' t have it hooked up. You can also have the chip maker program it where it doesn't throw a light. I've run mine that way for 3 years. I'm getting ready to finally install it just so I can compare the inlet and outlet temps of the intercooler.

Everything is a plug in deal with the exception of running the wire for the MAT if you choose to.
 
Any predictions on what my TR is capable off? the TR did a best of 14.29@95mph 60ft 2.12 before the new list of mods. I posted this a while ago regarding how fast most of you trap which kinda list what I had done to the car as well. And what potential does the stock turbo have till I have to upgrade to a bigger one?
