"phantom" knock retard

I have had a weird problem since late last year. When I get on my car, then get off the gas, the ECM starts to pull timing. Also,sometimes on the initial 'hit' of the throttle,it will pull timing for just an instant. I realize that is likely some type of vibration. But, the first issue doesn`t seem like it would be. Maybe cam sensor related? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Brian,

I found the metal heat shield on the HVAC box, was contacting the right rear valve cover.

I put a drivers side poly mount on and VIOLA! no more knock.

Check (w/flashlight) to see any witness marks on the HVAC metal shield

or the common "dp hitting the rear of the upper control arm or the bottom of the firewall"
