I have only reused rings on a new crate motor that swallowed a bolt. That engine was in a street rod that was sold so I did not get any long term results but it was fine for several hundred miles after the it went back together.
With about 5 tanks of gas thru the engine I can already feel clearly a smooth finish on the cylinder walls where the rings ride. I have it apart for new bearings and to polish the crank because an oil galley plug popped out.
How do I know if it is OK to use the same rings or if the cylinder walls are OK for new rings?
Thank You for your help.
