Would someone reming me of the 'best' boost to run on an ol te63 with the smaller exhaust housing.

Stock cubed block, caps, mild port on iron heads, PTE front mount, 65lbers,mafT, plenty of fuel/volume, on race gas and timing below 20 etc...

If memory serves, I thought about 26-27 was where you saw the best gains, before heat became an issue.

Or is this an ol wives tale. Or do you need more detail? This is a full weight GN.

Thanks!

Honestly, it depends on what compressor cover it has.
The T63E with the E cover I'd say what you said would hold true as the small E cover would tend to heat the air up over 27psi.
If it had the larger Garrett 3.5" inlet, 2.5" discharge like they came with back in the day, then you could safely run it up to 28psi. And if it had an H cover from PTE with a 4" inlet, 3" discharge, then you could run it up to 30psi, but at that point, back pressure would definitely be the determining factor. Compressor covers have A/R ratios just like turbine housings and have a similar affect as the turbine housings do. But it mainly has to do with spool up and velocity of the airflow inside the housing in relation to heat generated at higher boost levels. If that makes any since. E cover will give quicker spool up but will heat up the air at lower boost levels, where as the H cover will give slightly slower spool up but have cooler charge temps at high boost levels. In this example 28psi for the E cover vs the H cover. To my knowledge, there has never been any real world test results to back this claim, only reported charge temps by customers who upgraded their comp cover on their turbo only.

Thanks...I do understand. My turbo is from 'backin the day, but has a 3" inlet. If I recall correctly, I have the smaller PTE ehaust housing. Nevertheless...point taken. Overall I have the smaller housings and have not really seen any gains from 30psi...which explains it.

Thankss

I have a TE63-1, and with a STOCK motor... other then injectors/DP/IC I ran a 11.22 and Im sure could have went 10's with more timing.
