I am getting my throttle body bored out and also was thinking about "matching" the t-body hole (where it bolts to the turbo) to the same size as the impeller wheel diameter on my TA33 for smooth air flow. I haven't read too many posts about anyone doing it or their thoughts...so i am just wondering if in fact anyone has any thoughts on it?

Thanks,
Nathyn

If the TB is before the turbo, make it as big as possible and match it to the turbo inlet. You can't go too big.

yeah thats what i figured i would do, i was just surprised by the lack of discussion on porting out your throttle body. From what i understand the hot air crowd benefits more from a ported throttle body then a IC car.

We're lucky, it only costs about $20 to have ours bored. The throttleblade is plenty big, just remove the blade and shaft and you can bore the small end to 62mm easily. A little metal has to be added in the side where it's thin but it's easy to do.

We benefit a lot because restrictions before the turbo are worse than after the turbo.

I measured out my John Craig TA-33 and the opening is 59mm and the throttle body is 60mm. It is already bigger than the turbo, so if anything, you would want to remove the little "shelf" of the turbo opening to avoid any surface airflow disruptions...kind of the opposite of reversion since it is pulling the air over the lip.

Thanks GNeric...I don't have my TA33 and t-body here with me, so i wasn't sure how they matched up, but from what it sounds like is the the turbine housing lip may need to be cut back slightly if you want an absolute smooth flow, but i wouldn't think a 1 mm would make that much of a difference - IMO.

I smoothed mine out down into the turbo near 1 inch to smooth out the transition. I bought my TA-33 a while back so I didn't have the option of JC porting it out, so I did that myself.:D
