I need to port the waste gate puck hole on the exhaust side of turbo housing. No problemo. I have the equipment to do it. However, what is the best way to protect the turbo from damage from metal shavings? Obviously I want to do it once and do it right. Let me know. Thanks!

I had a friend of mine at a machine shop do mine, All he used was a rag and covered all the internals.. blew it out with a hose.. worked fine after the install...

I'd suggest removing the exhaust housing completely, then you can thoroughly clean it before you put it back together.

I think this is the best idea but I have done it the other way too.
Does anyone have a template, I will need to do this before the install.
I have used a copper gasket in the past but I don't have it anymore.

Thanks.

Template? I have some Prussian Blue I am going to smear on the puck, slap the housing with the puck a couple times, and then mark the outside of the marked housing with a black marker. I am then going to leave 1/8" of meat to the inside of the black mark.

Sounds like that new 6265 is going to see some action soon!

It might as well, it's owner sure wont!!!
Just waiting to see if I can get an intercooler sponsorship.
I am a little hesitant to run this on the stock one.

why would you be affraid to, john? with alky you can run a small intercooler because of the cooling effect of the alky, right? not optimal, but do-able...

I am going to start it with out the alky I think.
With that alky it will cool enough.
My bigger concern is pressure drop when I turn the boost up.

I put the prussian blue on the waste gate puck and tightened the downpipe back up. I slapped the puck hard against the exhaust housing 5-6 times and removed the DP. I noted the prussian blue only marked the turbo at about the 12:30 to 1:30 position, and did not touch anywhere else. I repeated this process with the same results. This is a GBP 3.5" dp.

Anyone have any suggestions? I am going to need to get a seal from the puck to exhaust housing, and I sure as hell don't have it now....

Puck should hit flush .....something is up.

Have you drove the car w/the turbo yet?

Porting cant hurt Max boost I would run it and see..if you havent already

Did mine with a dremel tool and one (several) of those little 3/4"-1" sanding drums.
Fired the engine for a few seconds, BEFORE I put the downpipe back on, that way it would get blown out without consecquence to the turbine.
That was about 40,000 miles ago. No problems.

Put a straightedge onthe exhaust housing and the puck...one of those ain;t flat...if it's the exhaust housing could probably take some sandpaper with a block and sand it flat...if it's the puck...then...don't know...not sure I'd want to try sanding the puck flat...

The PTE 6262 is new, and so is the downpipe. I have some miles on both, but I'm having an over-boosting issue and Pete at PTE thinks it's because I haven't ported the wastegate hole. Obviously I have a new problem with the puck not hitting the turbo square....

When the wastegate hole is too small you get boost creep...BTDT...as for the puck not hitting it square you need to determine why...you'll lose boost pressure if it doesn't seal...

There is no need to remove anything but the dp. Just carefully grind the hole and then start it and blow the chips out. Make sure no one is nearby when you start it. Ive done this at least 10x on different cars and never had one problem. If the wastegate puck is not sitting square chances are its the swing valve assembly location and geometry. Ive seen problems with them on some dp's. They had to be relocated. Ive never seen the exhaust housing be the problem.

Does Precision offer to port match the waste gate hole?
It sounds like a value added service.
Unless you can verify that sealing problem with your
other turbo, we can not make the assumption it is the turbine housing.
Do you have the HD or Standard Gate?
On another note what A/R do you have?
