Powermaster Accumulator Ball thread

Switching out my accumulator ball for the current, larger style ball because my OE started leaking at the seam. The original ball's threads are square with no taper but the new one has a flare end and I cannot seem to get it to start threading up. Anyone else encounter this issue or am I just dumb?
