how close performance wise are these?
I know it's rated at the same hp levels, but on a 3200 rpm converter I wonder what the difference in these two would be, both seat of the pants power and drivability?

Ummm.
In Buick speak, there are 3 models of the PT61.

1st, there's the PT6131E non ball bearing, rated to support around 600-615 fwhp.

2nd there is the PT6152E which if you look on PTEs website under Buick turbos, this is the PT61. This turbo will support up to 630 fwhp.

3rd there is the PT6131RE, which is the dual ball bearing version of the 6131E.

You can also get all three of these turbos with the larger TO4S compressor cover. Currently, they do not list the 6131 under the Buick turbos list, but they are available. All of them come standard with the .63 A/R housing. The 6152 will make more power and has pushed light weight cars into the 11.00s to 10.90s when maxed out. The 6131 whether it be dual bb or journal bearing will support a car into the low 11's when maxed out. The 6131RE dual bb version will work with a stock torque converter. The journal bearing 6152 will need a 3200 stall converter to spool it up quickly.
Hope this helps.

Acutally it does...thanks Patrick. My converter is a Pat's 3200 lock-up. On the footbrake it'll hold about 3000 max. On the transbrake it rocks. Think my converter may be a little too tight for the 6152E?

It should work, might only be able to foot brake about 2-3psi, but it should spool up good once you get moving.

Hey Patrick,

I was thinking about the PT6131Re for my TTA. What injectors should I have for that turbo. Brian picked up some 50#'s for my at christmas time but I'm wondering if that is going to be enough. I hate to upgrade to my 50's and then need to switch to 65's right away.

Thanks

Eric

Ahh, never mind. I ordered a new chip for my 50# injectors last night. I think Brian may have undersold me on these but I just plain don't have the money to start switching around to the 65's right now. My race fund has been depleated for the summer. I'll get the 6131 on next summer and then upgrade injectors when need be.

Thanks

Eric

I also have a Pat`s 3000-3200 with the 61-52E. Works perfect. You will not be dissapointed.

I just installed a RJC boost controller, and spoolup is a little better.:D

My old mild combo went 11.2`s in a 3780lb car w/driver with only 22 psi. 206/206 roller, old ESP heads, 9/11 converter and of course one of my trannies!
The PT61-52e ran withing 1 tenth and 1 mph of the TE-45a I had @ the same boost. It did have an .85 housing, and an S-cover though.

HTH, Brian

That combo would be very similar to the stall requirements that a 6776R turbo has. Which others have posted to be a converter that can flash stall to 3000-3200. I would think that by having a smaller compressor wheel (61mm vs 67mm) that closer to 3000-3100 flash stall would work well. I have never heard any test results from a 6176R turbo and I do not believe one has ever been tested on a Buick V6 turbo, only the journal bearing version on V8 applications are what I've heard results on. On that application, it would spool that turbo up instantaneously with a 2800 flash stall converter. Typically on 281 CI and larger motors.
Just a thought or two.
