Greetings fellow members. On the oil pump drive gear that engages the cam sensor. I have a small amount of side to side play. It's not alot and I thought it would be ok since oil will be forced through there. How much is too much play is acceptable and can a machine shop replace the bushing that is in there? I think there is a bushing in there. You guys chime in. I haven't seen this on on the boards. Thanks

The cam sensor may have a bushing but there's no bushing in the cover. If the oil pump shaft has the play in it then it's time for a new cover and pump gears.

I'll try

No bushing in cover--The shaft should be a SLIP fit--probably .001-.003 clearance. I go by feel. Important to have no deep grooves worn in pocket and gear to cover end play is as close to 0 as possible. Can't say as I have ever seen excessive drive gear bore wear. The gear itself can also be worn ( where it runs in bore.
