Anybody running them without tubes?Or are tubes needed?

Reason i ask is cause I just got a set of 28x10x16 Hoosiers for my GTA wheels and have been running 26x11.5x16 ET Streets tubeless for 3 years now without problems and was wondering if the Hoosiers can be run the same way.

Thanks in advance,
Steve

I ran 26x10.5x15 Hoosiers tubeless on my full weight 84 Z28 and I was pleased w/ 1.62 ft times pulling drivers front wheel. They seemed to last alot longer than normal but, I didnt race evary weekend.

Overall, I am pleased and going to put a set on my TTA as soon as I can.

OK cool,I just wanted to make sure before I mounted them.

Also, does anyone have an opinion on when you should go with tubes/screw in the tire?As in how low of a 60ft before this becomes important?I've been getting low 1.60's with the ET Streets but should be able to get 1.5's(maybe 1.4's when I switch to racegas).

Thanks,
Steve

Man, I think I am about the only one running tubes! The manufacturer recommends tubes so that is why I ran them. (Hoosier Quick Time Pros) If you run tubes, screwing the rims is mandatory of course and you also need to increase the size of the hole for the tube's valve stem. If you do go with tubes make sure that you remove the little inspection tag from the tire as I had one that actually cut a hole in the tube and got a flat! Luckily it happened as I was pulling into the garage.

I am currently using the 28x10x16 Hoosiers without tubes and they work great. Several low 1.6 60's and a best of 1.55 and I haven't noticed any spinning on the rim or any other problems so far.

Since we're talking about the Hoosiers, what kind of results have you all that use them on TTA's had using the DOT 16" tire Hoosier sells? I believe they only sell the QT Pro in 1 size for a 16" wheel. I used the QT Pro on my GN and really though highly of them. The only problem I have with the 16 inchers is the footprint size is kinda small. I'd like to use the Hoosier slick, but think the 28" tall tire might be a tad too much for my mid 11 second TTA.

:)

The answer is;Screws are needed at low air pressures;11lbs and lower.the 60 ft time is not the defining factor atleast on a street car.WE don't have the gear ratio to shock the tire enough to spin on the rim.HTH

turbov6joe,you might want to consider the M/T ET Streets.Hoosier only makes one 16" size DOT at 26x9.5x16 and that has a tread with of 8" where M/T has two sizes a 26x10.5x16 and a 26x11.5x16 which have tread with of 8.4" and 9.7" - I've been running the 26x11.5x16(which have a 1.7" larger footprint than the Hoosiers)on stock rims with no complaints.

fubar2.5,that makes sense - and scince I usually end up between 14-16#'s I should be fine then without screws.

Thanks again,
Steve

I was told the 26x11.5 MT's on a stock TTA wheel will rub???
I've used both brands/types in mention here, and was much more satisfied with the Hoosier QT Pro for overall performance.
I guess my next question begs to be asked: Not so much the case with the .4", but is the 1.7" difference in footprint really going to make a huge difference on a mid 11 second car? IMO the Hoosier QT Pro tire has a better compound suited for the weight of the TR/TTA. With the HQTP's my 60 foot times were significantly lower. I'm just a little weary of the smaller size of the Hoosiers, and don't want to have the rubbing issues with the larger MT's.

Well, scince I have never used the Hoosiers I can't comment on which I liked better but can tell you the 26x11.5x16 ET Streets will fit with no problems on a TTA - even the taller and wider 28x10x16 fit great

Hopefully someone who has used both will chime in

Steve

Cool, I thought they would rub! Thanks for the info. What kind of short times do you get with the MT'S???

With my old car(TTA#861,consistant 12.0 car - 11.99 once)I was getting 1.60-1.63 60fts during the 2000 season

With my GTA(11.7-11.8 pump gas car)this season I'm getting 1.63-1.66 60fts on the same tires that now have well over 100 passes on them - thats why I'm changing now cause I want a taller tire and fell these may be loosing some grip being 3 years old with 100+ passes.

Steve

Those are about the same short times I was getting with the HQTP's on our crappy track. The 28" tire will definetely give you some more MPH, but might hurt that short time without a looser converter. BTW, I have a friend in the market for a cloth/hardtop TTA, are you interested in selling yours?

I'm working through some issues with the converter right now actually - it was too loose and my rpm's would only drop 400 between shifts.Hopefully I'll be back at the track in a few weeks with the slicks and new converter and see how I do then.

As for my hardtop, sorry it's not for sale but there is the one for sale in Texas - I saw you replied to his post,I have emailed him but never heard back.If you do hear from him I'd love some info on the car,not to buy but I'm keeping a registry of all the hardtop/cloth's I can find(5 so far).
