What trans would you buy tci, art carr, bowtie overdrive, or just rebuild the one i have?
I have a guy here in Houston that builds racing transmissions for a living but wants $1300.00 . I work with his wife and i don't feel like he is cutting me much of a brake on the price. He told me it will take him 2 weeks. Considering i can buy a tci for $1500. from summit. $1300. sounds kinda hi. this trans has 5000 miles on it and i don't think that much needs replaced. New frictions and the valve body went trough. i think failure was caused by a cheep stall converter. he will rebuild the stall for $125 witch i will do. Artcarr's price is kinda hi for me.

Ask him what upgrade parts are included in his $1300 price?
You can buy a new convertor for a few more dollars. The $1500 TCI one has a few upgrades, clutches, stator support, sun shell, shift kit, BRF valvebody & governor. The VB & Gov are the best parts, This may be a better price than his 1300 one. If it had a billet or hardened shaft forward drum it would be much better.

What you don`t see on the builds from the builders you mention is you will not get a good valvebody and governor combination. BRF calibrated is not going to cut it.
Also, the trans will "probably" suffer from irregular shift timing and all around inadequate performance.
If your local guy is at all fimilar at all with Turbo Buick tannies, do yourself a favor and get it done right. Saving money will COST you a headache later.

If you go with a vendor on here you will be getting a good unit at a fair price. $1300 is no deal imo if its just a rebuild with a shift recalibration. Id want a billet shafted drum minimum.

I don't know where you are located, but in the midwest/Chicagoland area, you can't best Jimmy's Transmissions!!! Call Jimmy at 877-799-7507

The trans i have now is a art carr unit. with hardened input shaft, shift kit and all. The trans guy i know is a well known motor and trans builder in the racing industry. I don't want cheep i am just poor and want the best for my money. I was just thinking if the tci unit is a really good one a might be able to fix and sale the trans i have now (make some money back) or have a spare.

Thanks guys i think i will go with my trans guy. He does have a good track record its just on the dirt track. I don't know what these cars are called but they have the big wing on the back of them. The reason i decided to go with him is because all the ppl i have talked to seem to think i should get my trans rebuilt rather than buy a new one.

Probably a World of Outlaws sprint car? Alky 355ci aluminum small block v-8's. 800hp. Actually they are direct drive and have no transmission. Must be another type of sprint car. Just have him use the parts that the vendors sell here. Forward drum and dual feed, etc.

Go with a Brian Hofer tranny  trust me do it right the first time...check out his feedback and what he includes in a rebuild;)

X2 for Brian Hofer. Ask your local guy how many 2004r's he has built that have lived behind 700hp for over 600 passes. If this is just a stock car you should be able to find someone to rebuild it for $500-600. I have a local guy that can do that & he is very capable, but I wouldn't run his tranny at the level I'm at now or I would be rebuilding it 2 or 3 times a year.
