Just sand blasted a pretty rough shield, looks good and ready to paint, I think. What should I prep the metal with, brake cleaner or degreaser? I purchased to cans of Dupli-Color (Primer with Sealer and Aluminum 500 degree). Anyone refinish with this setup and wondering how nice the Aluminum looks? I've never done this, but can't wait for a refinished shield.

hello; I don't know about paint as I got mine powder coated. Looking back I might of left it plain aluminum and take it off every now and rub it down with scotch bright. I don't think PC absorbs the heat very well and it does get hot. All the shield is is a big heat sink.

I had a turbo shield powder coated with high temp finish years ago but didn't hold onto the car much longer to see what happened over time...How does the powder coat hold up? Has anyone refinished with anything other that chrome, PC, Aluminum? Has anyone done a black? I'd like to see what it looks like.

hello; I did mine black and it's held up. I'm not convinced on the heat dissipation. There are people here that even PC there rad. I don't think I'd do that. But you can get any finish you want in PC. There are a boat load of colors out there. On my HD I went for a bronze colored frame and I'm getting the tanks, fenders, oil tank satin black. IMO don't do chrome it's been done too many times and maybe black also.
see ya
