My mechanic tells me that the reason my car runs bad is because it's running too cold. I have a 160 degree stat. with rmi as the coolant. This is a daily driver--I don't race. Will this cause it to run poorly on the low end? My temps run 170--185 here in New Orleans with the outside temp @ 90 degrees.

Temp.

Absolutely not. Sounds like the reason it runs bad is he can't tune it. Your mechanic may in fact be a good mechanic but he is not up to par on his knowledge of these Turbo Buicks. Sounds like he was frustrated and just grasping for some kind of explanation for his inability to do a performance tune up. Do you have a ScanMaster a Turbo tweak chip? That's awesome that you have a car with only has 24k on the odometer. Your car should run strong with what bolt ons you have. You need to get it Tuned up by someone who knows what they're doing.

AGREED 110%!

Mechanic has no idea about the TR's obviously. Take to a shop that actually knows the TR, and they'll find out.

Your mechanic is an idiot.

Did he ask you what chip is in your car or even check to see?

Did he read the plugs, check IAC counts, and other ALDL data?

Check the base fp?

Scanmaster and a turbo tweak chip for those 55's would most likely help, especially if you have a Red's chip now.

I hope the ECM is modded as well for them.

lol thats some funny ish. your car will run better with a 160 stat in it.

Exactly. A good mechanic doesn't necessarily make a good Turbo Buick mechanic. Turbo cars in general are tricky to work with and tune. He probably was judging by the normal temperature range for typical every-day cars, which for some makes/models does sometimes get close to 200 degrees and is still considered normal.
