I know, I've been going back and forth. My computer skills are admittedly pretty poor so it could be a problem on my end. Bob bailey held my hand over the phone while I installed the latest plc.exe too (which I greatly appreciate), this log was taken after said update so I dont know what the deal is

I had a lot of problems tonight and need some help. First, attached are two files. One from this morning (called Steve Cruise 2 10-15-13) and one from tonight (called car died). The first file shows the most recent tune and the car was running fine. The second file is from tonight when I was driving home and I had not changed the tune at all. The first thing I noticed tonight was that the chip was pulling out max fuel at cruising speeds. I was able to drive the car but it really wasn't smooth. If you go to around frame 8059 you can see where things went south and the car died. I'm not sure what is going on and could use some help looking at the data. As you can see I'm traveling at a steady speed and all of a sudden the chip is jumping back and forth between parameter 5 and parameter 7. Then you can see the numbers in the parameters change on there own and the DFCO check box gets checked as well as the BLM box. At one point parameter 8 is highlighted but the MAP pressure is only 80-100 or so. You can also see during the run from tonight that it never checks what gear the car is in. After the car died, I pulled over to a parking lot and restarted the car all my parameters had been changed to something like 130 across P1 -P8. All the other parameters were different too. I tried to upload my saved cal file but when it the parameters didn't change back to what I know they should've been. With P1 at 130 the chip was pulling out max fuel. I ended up looking at the beginning of the saved "car died" file to see what my parameters were set at so I could set them manually. I did that, but the car wouldn't run right. I could idle in park (a little rough), but as soon as I put it in gear and gave it gas it would move a few feet and die. Had to tow it home tonight. Thanks for any help.

it looks like a bad connection, the data "strangeness" is all the "2" bit.

Is your ECM tucked back into the kick panel? make sure there is no pressure on the PL.

Bob, It is pushed back into the kick panel, but its been there for days and I haven't touched it in a few weeks. I will check for pressure in the morning. Should I not put it back in stock location? What do you mean by the "2" bit?

you can run it in the stock location, but remember that the PL is basically running the engine now, so the connections are critical.

the data in the ECM is "8 bit" and every number on the screen and every piece of data in the ECM passes along the same circuits. the signal
pin that represents a place-value of 2 is the one having issues. In a regular decimal number like 12345 the "4" is in the "ten's" place. Binary is similar,
an 8 bit representation for "97" is 01100001 99 is 01100011 notice that there is only one "bit" different, this bit has a place value of 2.

Ok got my TR6 installed what do I need to do to the chip to run the TWO STEP? Also I'm running autolite 23 spark plugs @ a tight 28 gap. What should I gap them to for 27 PSI ?

you don't need to do anything specific to the chip. if you have closed loop enabled in the middle boost range then you need to connect up the trigger wire to turn off the corrections when the 2-step is activated.

Where do you connect the trigger wire to? Also how do you enable closed loop in the middle of the boost range and what does that help do?

The 12v trigger that goes to the 2-step can be tapped into and also sent to D11 at the ECM, which will turn off closed loop correction.

We don't want closed loop correction on when the 2-step is activated, since the a/f will not be right.

You can control when closed loop is enabled using the PL parameter "Spool Mode Max MAP". Closed loop is enabled when that kpa setting is reached, or the spool mode time limit times out. The spool mode timer starts when you cross over 100kpa. The purpose for that timer is to enable closed loop after a set time, even if the MAP reading doesn't reach the Max MAP setting.

OK?????? So your saying I will need to run a wire from the orange wire on the TR6 that turns the Two step on to D11 on the ECM also and to a button that will activate to two step mode?


There is a gray wire that is bundled with the orange wire on the TR6 what is that used for?

All I'm referring to is how to disable closed loop if necessary. It can be disabled by sending 12v to D11.

How you trigger your 2-step is up to you, but normally it needs a 12v signal to activate.

Bob, I moved the ECM from the stock location and reset the PL board on the ECM and that solved my problem. Do you know if anyone makes an ECM wiring harness extension? I'm trying to figure out a better location for the ECM Anyone have suggestions?

Eric, can you give a little more info on the spool mode max map? The default is 185 kpa (or at least that is what mine is set at). Would this automatically go into effect if I was foot breaking and building boost? It would keep the AFR correction from working until 185 kpa? What is the "spool" reference? In other words how does it know you are trying to spool? Thanks.

"Spool mode" just refers to that mid boost area where we don't necessarily want closed loop correction turned on, because we are usually moving through that area pretty fast. It enters that mode above 100-105kpa. This is where closed loop correction will turn off. A timer also starts at that time which is used for the "spool mode time limit". Closed loop correction will come back on if that timer expires (no matter what the MAP reading is), or if the MAP reading reaches the "Spool mode max MAP" setting. The time limit setting is sort of a back up in case you never reach the MAP setting, but still want correction to come on at some point.

If someone was using a 2-step to launch, and you were building boost to say 15psi at the line (approx 200kpa), then set the spool mode max MAP to something higher than 200kpa, like 220 or something. Also make sure the timer is set high enough to not override the MAP setting. This will disable closed loop correction while in that boost range.
